my 3 month old puppy literally eat anything and everything it finds on the ground. Everytime I take him outside to go potty he just sits there and find things to eat. So far he has eaten, small rocks, tree leaves and branches, cottton balls, paper, his own poop, my roommate's dog's poop...etc. I try to keep our carpet clean by picking up things through out the day but my roommate's puppy makes a big mess all the time (she is teething and not potty trained at all!) It's not like I don't feed him. I always leave enough food and water at all time. I'm really worried to let him out of of his crate when I'm not here. My roommate's puppy is not vaccinated, not clean, not potty trained, has fleas and ticks. On the other hand my puppy is vaccinated and is getting his regular check up tomorrow. I don't want my puppy to eat my roomate's puppy's poop cause it probably has worms and other bad things.

I told my roomate to get her puppy potty friend or at least get a gate so that her puppy is not jumping around everywhere pooping and peeing...including my bedroom. She said she has no money nor time to do that. She said I'm mean to my puppy cause I'm training my puppy by keeping him in his crate so he learns to hold his urine. I also walk my puppy at least twice a day. Her puppy doesn't know how to walk on a leash cause she never try to walk her. She always carries her around. She thinks she's a good pet owner cause she lets her puppy roam around the house freely...with no restriction.
I am very frustrated but of course my puppy doesn't know and try to eat everything he can possibly find. So I end up finding him nibbling on his own poop!
What should I do to make him stop eat things that he's not supposed to eat and what should I do with my roommate situation???

Tell your vet about the poop eating as your pup may have a vitamin deficiency.
Your room-mate is not a good dog owner at all. She's allowing her pup to do as it will and the result will ultimately be both of you getting evicted or getting rid of both dogs.Don't know how old your pup is but apply Advantix or Front-line monthly to keep fleas and ticks off.As soon as you can start giving heartworm meds monthly as well. They have stuff in them that takes care of other types of worms as well so you're covered for everything except tapeworms.
Buying both flea and heartworm preventatives monthly can be expensive but you're better off spending the money monthly than having to come up with a huge chunk of change to treat the dog after it gets sick from either flea allergies or heartworms.
Sit your room-mate down and tell her that she's allowing her dog to run her. She's supposed to be the dominant one not the dog.Ask her if that's how she plans to raise her kids when she has them? The same rules apply to children as dogs. They have to be taught consideration and respect. They need discipline, guidance and lots of llove.By indulging the dog in letting it do as it will when it will does nothing but create a little terror that no one wants to be around.
Dogs need exercise to relieve stress as well as burn energy. So the more you give your pup the more it will sleep and the less it'll get into mischief. But it's not fair to any of you to have your pup watch the other do as it will while yours has rules it must follow.
If I were you I'd keep the pups seperated as much as possible and look for another place to live.Your room-mate is going to get you both kicked out anyway once your landlord finds the place is being turned into a filthy kennel. And no matter how hard you work to train your dog he'll not believe that yours has'nt done any damage.

Puppies depend on you to tell them what they can and cannot eat/chew on. Puppies love to explore and their mouths are the only instrument they have to do so. The only thing you can do is to keep your puppy's area free of anything he shouldn't be getting in to. When on walks, let him know you are in charge and immediately take away anything he puts in his mouth. He's only a baby and will learn eventually. It is imporant to watch him closely though, as swallowing rocks and branches can cause intestinal blockage which can be deadly.

In regard to your roommate situation, it sounds like you are the better pet parent. It sounds like the two of you should have set up some ground rules before either of you broght a puppy into your home. Unfortunately, you can't make your roommate change her behavior, but hopefully, you will watch out for her puppy too. If your roommate's puppy has fleas and ticks, then your dog either has them or will get them VERY soon. Make sure he gets put on a flea and tick medication. Explain to your vet that this other dog has worms. Take in a stool sample from both dogs, that way your dog can be treated at least. There are some medications that can also treat and prevent recurrence in some types of intestinal worms. If you know what the other puppy has, then maybe you can keep your pup from being sick.

Maybe you could ask your roommate for money to have her puppy treated too. It would break my heart to see another puppy living like that.

Puppies will chew anything that they can get into their mouths, much like a small child. They are always exploring and trying new things. Unfortunately, as you have stated, this can be very dangerous to the dog. Especially the eating of feces. Especially the other animals since the other dog has never been to a vet and been vaccinated. Drs. Foster and Smith have a wonderful product to stop dogs from eating feces, whether it be their own, another dogs, a cat's or a human's from a diaper. I have had my own Shih Tzu on it for just two weeks and I have already seen a marked improvement. The name of the product is Dis-Taste. It comes in either tablet form or powder form. Here is what the bottle says about the product and the dosage form. I bought the pills becasue they were easier to give to my dog. Dis-Taste stops the disturbing and unhealthy habit of stool eating by giving feces a strong taste dogs avoid. This easily digested all natural vegetable extract was developed by veterinarians and is proven effective in 95-98% of cases tested. Increasing physical activity and feeding a high quality diet may also assist in controlling this behavior. Directions for use: Dogs and puuppies, feed one table for each ten pounds of body weight daily for two weeks after stool eatin is first observed. If results are not satisfactory, double dosage and administer for two more weeks. As a prevention for further episodes, continue feeding one table daily. Acitve Ingredients, Natural Fermented Vegetable Extract, thiamine, hydrochloride, capsicum oleorsin. The item number is 7097 and you can go to www.drsfostersmith.com to order it. If I am not mistaken, I paid 15.99 for 250 tablets and I think 9 dollars in shipping. It is a very good product. I hope this helps.

you should try suggesting to her that if she doesn't have the time or money for her dog, that it would be in the best interest for the dog to try to find a better home for her dog. And if she doesn't agree, then try the next step of contacting your local animal shelter and maybe file a report of animal neglect. Then she'll probably have no choice at that point.

Also, about your pet issues...Crate training is a great thing. For the non-stop eating of poop and other such things...you can go to Petco and purchase something called bitter apple, and there's something else for the eating of their own poop that works, but I forget the name, just ask at the pet store and they'll know waht you're talking about.
