Yes, but if they preach at you, they do not respect your right to choose your own beliefs, and that means they are not very good friends. Why do you want friends who praise a God who would barbecue you (or anybody) for eternity?

Sure. And I wouldn't worry too much about their "preaching" at you. God gives you the free will to make your own decision about eternity and then makes it happen. If you choose an eternity without him, then that's what you'll get (I call that Hell).
Curious, though, if you were severely intoxicated and your friends tried to convince you not to drive home, would you think they were preaching at you or are they trying to save you from yourself? And your Christian friends are doing it with an infinite eternal view in mind.

How do you specifically "want" friends of a certain religion? Friends just happen, and most atheists probably have mostly friends that are believers because there are fewer of us and harder to find...
Luckily my friends are the more moderate believer types and don't talk about it much let alone preach... And basically we know it's a subject to stay off of.

I am a Christian with many Atheist friends. I know better than to preach at anyone and my friends don't challenge me. I have my own reasons to believe what I do and Atheists have their own reasons to believe in what they do.

I'd say he should get his head examined.
Unfortunately, since 95% of Americans believe in God, good luck finding great like minded people.
When they preach to you, change the subject.
Frankly, I get offended that they (I'm assuming you are talking about the "born again" Christian variety just by the look of it) look at us as another conquest.....not a friend.
You have to question their motive for wanting to be YOUR friend.
They are recommended not to have friends who are beyond conversion, so watch how fast they go away if you stand your ground or GOD FOR BID! PREACH to them and give them a taste of their own medicine.

That is more than okay to want & have Christian friends. If you are uncomfortable with what they say tell them. But know as Christians their 1st priority is to God, and to getting the Good News out to everyone. So try to be patient & understanding! Good for you, not being threatened by Christianity. I am a Christian & I have all kinds of friends, gay, straight, catholic, Mormon, atheist, etc. If they ask me a question I try to give them an honest answer, if I ask them a question, I try to listen objectively. It is nice to see someone bridging the gap!
