I've been on a ton of treatments, but found the side effects hurt me more. I would never take another drug. I have had Zoloft, Paxil, Xanc, and a bunch more I can't remember.

What helped my was phycotherapy (doctors that do not use medication, but talk therapy), taking vitamins, took a stress managment class, and go to the gym. I never felt better and I fought anxiety attacks for over 10 years. There are alternatives which should be ATTEMPTED before meds.

I am not ati-meds, just think when appropriate doctors should work a little harder when it comes to mental health. The worst thing I see happening now is Family Docotors handing out antidepression and antiaxiety drugs without even recommending a specialist. Makes me sick!

Xanax helps almost immediately. But it makes you quite numb and sleepy. And the effect wears off within just a few hours.

Long term - Effexor. This takes several days before it actually helps. It is a stimulant so it makes you feel quite the opposite of Xanax. The overall effect wasn't nearly as anxiety-dampening as Xanax, but it's effect lasts more than just a few hours. Effexor has many more little side effects, so be aware. But long term use got me to the point where I rarely take medicine anymore.

Therapy helped some. I wouldn't rule it out. Best course of action is regular exercise, and find things you enjoy doing to keep yourself busy. That works wonders.

I wish I'd never heard of Paxil. Was on it for 10 years, it took 2 years to get it out of my system when I decided I didn't want to take it anymore. During that 2 years, the anxiety was worse than it had ever been before. Sure, it took the edge off for a few years but it didn't take care of the real cause of my anxiety, LIFE.
Go to "antidepressantsfacts.com", these "wonder" drugs only leave the user "wondering" why they got on them in the first place.
Today, I take vitamins, get plenty of rest, eat right and talk to a therapist to gain perspective on my problems.

I AND MY DAUGHTERS (DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY RUN RAMPID IN OUR FAMILY) HAVE TRIED SO MANY DIFFERENT THINGS WITH NO RELIEF WHAT SO EVER OVER THE YEARS AND IF ANYTHING THE SIDE EFFECTS OF THE MEDS WERE WORSE THAN THE INITITAL PROBLEMS.

I FINALLY FOUND THE PERFECT PILL THAT SEEMS TO WORK FOR ALL OF US AS WELL AS MANY FRIENDS AND IT IS CALL REMERON (AN ANXIETY/DEPRESSION RX), THERE ARE MANY VARIATIONS OF IT BUT THE SOF-TAB THAT DISSOLVES IN YOUR MOUTH IS THE BEST WE HAVE FOUND AND IT TASTES GOOD ALSO...LOL. IT IS ALSO GREAT BECAUSE YOU GET THE CALMING EFFECT WITHOUT THE NASTY, LETHARGIC, HUNG OVER FEELING OF THE TYPICAL MEDS THEY GIVE SUCH AS VALIUM, XANAX ETC., AND AS FAR AS BUSPAR, I THINK THAT IS THE BIGGEST WASTE IT RANKS RIGHT UP THERE WITH SNAKE OIL IN MY AND MANY PEOPLES OPINION.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU I KNOW HOW BAD ANXIETY CAN COMPLICATE YOUR LIFE AND SINCE ANXIETY AND AT LEAST SOME LEVEL OF DEPRESSION GO HAND IN HAND THIS IS USUALLY A GREAT CHOICE.

I have been on different SSRIs for my anxiety disorder. I like lexapro the best-works well, no major side effects. Zolfot cut down on anxiety attacks but I had to nap every day, for like 3-4 hours. Tried effexor, did not work as well.

Not exactly anxiety medication but the best help I've ever gotten was w Cymbalta, it helps w nerve pain which I suffer from as well as severe depression, and it also helped w the anxiety that often accompanied my pain. Good luck to you.

Clonazepam, which I was taking twice a day, now down to once a day. This is what worked best for me. It is like a preventive. I also have Lorazepam which I take for immediate treatment, but I have not had to take them in about 6 mths. The Clonazepam works great for my anxiety.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life
