I eat 1400 calories a day and I exercise about 2-3 hours (hard training because I'm on the college track team)

On some days I feel fine, but then others, I get so hungry at night that I end up stuffing myself until I feel full - so I end up overeating some nights

Is this because I'm intaking too few normally? or is 1400 fine and I just have an overeating problem?

I'm not gaining any weight, so it's not affecting me. I lost some weight, but that's normal for me right now.

Thanks for the help!

1400 is not enough calories - espescially with your activity level. Listen to your body. It is giving you constant hunger signals for a reason. You will slow down your metabolism if you don't provide sufficient calories. Most people on diets are set at 2000 per day. For heaven's sake, increase your intake...Go gradually and maintain consistancy. Don't randomly gourge. Just eat higher calorie foods and increase your iontake volume in your meals and you'll be fine. Good luck, jason

1400 calories is way too few for someone working out as much as you do. I'd suggest getting your caloric intake up to about 2500 per day to give your body the fuel it needs to perform. Surely the track team can provide you with some nutritional guidance; I'm sure your coach would be really upset if he found out how little you were currently eating.

There is no reference to age, weight, or your goals. So I can only answer by 2000 is usually the minimum if you are not trying to lose weight if you are an adult. Eat the larger meal in the first 6 hours of your day (is preferred) and have vegetables around to munch on so the stuff you eat is also good for you.
