I wish I had wavy hair!!!!!!!!!
I have really curly short hair, so it is VITAL that I find a good "anti-poof" system.
The new Herbal Essences line (various products) is really good (cheap, but good). I use the "twisted" stuff in the purple bottle. Also, if you use conditioner that says it "straightens" your hair, your hair will lay a little flatter.
I use a towel and squeeze water out of my hair... DON'T RUB IT! Then I use Frizz Ease "anti-volume" gel. It's light and you can't even tell you are wearing it. I comb it through my hair.
While your hair is drying... don't touch it! I mean try not to. My hair lady told me this and I swear... SWEAR that this makes my hair so much smoother and shinier.
Hope this helps!

I also have wavy hair and I really like Sunsilk's anti-poof 24/7 cream. I use it on damp hair and then I use mousse and scrunch my hair. If my hair's still big, then I run a little more 24/7 cream through my hair. I usually wear my hair straight, though, and using the anti-poof cream before blowdrying my hair helps a lot too, it makes it easier to straighten and softer. It's good stuff, and cheap too, and you can get a free sample of it at www.gethairapy.com/samples

I love Paul Mitchel's Skinny Serum. And Neutrogena Triple moisture hair cream
http://www.neutrogena.com/ProductsDetails_358.asp?lProductLineID=14
What i do is when my hair is damp i put in the skinny serum which helps eliminate puff. Then when its totally dry i run the other stuff through it and scrunch the bottoms so the waves separate. At the end it looks like it took you hours to get it right when it takes like a minutes =]]
edit: and i suggest not using gel or pomade. It will make it hard, crunchy and stiff. You want soft flowing waves!

i have the same problem! i usually put a ton of leave in conditioner and also frizz ease. when its dry maybe some other gel...it's seriously that poofy! but as long as your hair is not oily you shouldn't have a problem.
don't straighten! it will only wreck your hair!
