I've found I don't really like most beers I drink. I've found only light beers so far and I drink primarily for the effect of lowering HDL. I'd like a recommendation for a dark beer that tastes better than stuff like Busch, Red Dog, etc. I am not a connosier by any means so I need some serious advice.

Does it have to be American? Negra Modelo from Mexico is a good dark beer. Sierra Nevada makes a good dark beer too.

Actually, Mexico is part of N. America so it is American

Any dark Samual Adams beer is great, or also try Leinenkugel's Creamy Dark, not as bitter as most dark beers, a little smoother but still very good dark beer. Otherwise just go to your local liquor store/department and try some different ones. Also try some local brews as they can be good too. Tastes very from one person to another so enjoy trying different kinds to find one that you enjoy! Good luck!

There are events during the spring and summer, like blues and brews, and you get sample cups, try around, you will find somethin.
I like Sam Smith, (not samuel smith) oatmeal stout.
it is allittle harder to find, but every one of those types are good, light and dark. Samuel smith is decent, winter lager, and a few others.
Good luck

Try to find Hop Devil by Victory Brewing Company. Very bold, bitter hoppy flavor, a very refreshing beer!

Bell's (out of Michigan) has some of the best beers all around, but their Double Cream Stout and their Porter is excellent. I promise you will not be disappointed.

if i have to drink domestic, yuengling lager , if availible, is a pleasant very drinkable amber beer. harder to come by, and more robust, yuengling also makes a great porter, but my advice is to stick withthe irish the scots or the british breweries if you truly like drak beers, although sapporro dark form japan is also decent.

Phblatt's is good for an old established brand. You might like the newer brands like Pramisiat or Langherhans.

Try Sierra Nevada's Porter or Brown Ale - both are as good as it gets in their respective categories and are widely available as they are domestic brews.
