My cat, Rudy, has been sneezing often lately. And they're not just little sneezes. They're big sneezes, and he makes up to 10 of them in a row. He does this up to a dozen times a day. I'm wondering if he's allergic to something. He'll be 9 years old, if that makes any difference. Am I right to worry, or is it just harmless?

There are two reasons pets sneeze, either the membranes that line their nose are inflamed or a foreign object of some sort is present in the nostrils. Membranes become inflamed either because the pet was exposed to a chemical irritant or it has contracted a respiratory tract infection. I would take the cat to a vet as soon as you can to get this problem resolved. Voice your concerns and make it known that you are worried and would like to know the reason for your cat to be sneezing. I really hope this helped. Take care and good luck.

Yes, if you're cat is sneezing frequently, you should worry. I recently took my kitten to the vet for the same problem, and he said occasional sneezes are nothing to worry about, but frequent, wet, sneezes are usually a symptom of an upper respiratory infection. This could be a cause for concern in an older cat. You should take your cat to the vet. My kitten got antibiotics and she's fine now.

I wouldn't tink that you should worry because it is natural for cats to sneeze, but in this case, I think that Rudy may be allergic. Has he been in contact with any new plants? Maybe even catnip?!
If you are seriously worried, you should take him to the vet. I mean, if he is sick, you could save his life! Do what you think is best. Best of luck to you and Rudy. Tell him I said "Bless you!"

I have two cats and each act differently. I have noticed that my oldest cat is allergic to a certain litter and has sneezing fits throughout the day. Change the litter to a different brand and see what that does!!!

once my cat, spot, had that same problem. after a few weeks of this happening he stopped being able to controll his legs and the left back one needed to be amputated, after a lengthy conversation with our vet we decided to put him down before the infection that had caused the sneezing in the first place spread to other parts of the body. but i'm sure rudy will be just fine!

Cats can get colds from tim to time... does his Meow sound funny? The most important thing to look foor is the color of his discharge when he sneezes.

Rule of thumb, if the discharge is clear, you're ok. Anything but, ask a vet.

Could be allergy or it could be the beginning of upper respiratory infection. Since he is doing it so often and becuase he is 9 years old, perhaps the better part of prudence is not to take chances and go take him to the vet. :) Really, that's what I'd do.

It is either just an allergy OR he is allergic to something that you recently put in your house.
