Both blue heelers and border collies are highly active, easy to train herding dogs. Get a good dog book and sign up for a positive reinforcement based obedience class and you will learn a lot about it. Next time study up BEFORE you get a dog - this dog is going to need a lot of exercise, so get your jogging shoes on!

The Heeler and the Border collie are both stock dogs, bread for working livestock. They are mid sized dogs, medium to long hair, good natured, need to have something to do or they can become troublesome as they try to entertain themselves. They like to work and if you have something for them to do they are happiest.
They live about 12 to 15 years.

I have two border collies - they are working dogs, so I hope you're an active person because they lovvvvveeee to run! Obedience is a must, as having such a fast dog who is disobedient is no joy. Positive reenforcement training has/is worked/working really well with my pups (one 13 weeks, one 6 years) so I recommend doing that form of obedience training.
These dogs are also highly intelligent so they need to have some kind of job to stimulate their minds, as well as their bodies.
They are to live between 12 to 14 years.
Have fun! They are great dogs!

Well, I have a 3 yr old blue heeler mix. Not sure what she is mixed with, but she is pretty big. She is a wonderful dog that thinks her job is to protect all of us, our other dogs included. I am a chihuahua lover first and foremost, but Gracie is a wonderful chihuahua wannabe....lol As far as how long they live, maybe 10-12 yrs.

he is an energetic, intelligent, free thinking herding dog. these dogs need lots of exercise and training to prevent unwanted behavior from starting. it is hard to gain and keep control of these dogs because they are free thinkers so you must be vigilant in proper training. these are sweet, loving dogs that live to work. the have an approximate life span of 8 to 10 years. some longer and some not that long. they are pretty easy going and good natured. some do get a little overprotective but usually are loving.

All of the above, sounds like your dog would be great at agility, flyball, or try disc dog, even competetive obedience - the community of people who do these sports are really fun.
