CONGRATULATIONS...first step is research and more research...you can do That on line..I'll get you a website.
It is very rewarding to trace your roots...however when researching Indian heritage it can be difficult because of the lack of records in some cases...but have fun and good luck.
the last website may not be of any use to you but my ancestors was on it so I had it in my file.

1/5 is quite possible.....there can be different degrees from different ancestors....it doesn't have to come from just one source...Duh.

I see what Jack and macandcheese are saying about the 1/5.
I'd say ask around your family. That's what I did and I found out that I'm at least 1/8 Cherokee Indian. Thought that was kinda cool.

To prove something you must have proof. Do you really have no way of tracing your family tree? most people can trace it back atleast 4 generations very easily. Do you have birth certificates of your mom and or dad? Or can you order them? They will list the names of thier parents and that is a start....

You have to be able to trace your ancestry back to someone who was on the Dawes rolls of 1900. See the link below

I'm with 'mac&cheese', how do arrive by that #? Fractions of ethnic background are always even numbers, even if it's 1/128 native.
