Why do some people think that Gay marriage is wrong?? How come marriage is something that 'has' to be between a man and a woman, and why can't it be between two of the same sex if they really love each other???

I honestly want to know why, most of you who disagree with it just say "it should be between a man and a woman" or you say "It's wrong"... do YOU even know why you think that???

Thanks.

Standard arguments:
1. Marriage is a sacred union.
No. This stems from the assumption that Christianity invented this concept... marriage originated as nothing more than a business transaction between landowners.

2. Homosexuality is a sin. Marriages between gays do not count.
Only to Christians. First amendment explicitly says that "Congress shall make no law restricting the freedom of religion". This means freedom FROM religion as well. Civil unions are just as beneficial as marriages and are regarded in the same fashion. Christians have absolutely no right dictating what people do with their lives by getting into our government. Personally, I've had enough.

3. Gay marriage does nothing for society, as they cannot bear children.
Then we should ban marriages of heterosexual couples who are sterile. We should also ban marriages of the elderly.
Artificial insemination and adoption are acceptable alternatives.

Any arguments you receive against gay marriage are more than likely religiously or propaganda-oriented.

I say we let gays get married and let 'em suffer with the rest of the married couples. We'll get a rise out of the Christians when gay divorces start happening.

Ever since I got my ministry diploma/license, I've had a few people asking me to do their handfastings and marriages. I had to turn them down, because I am saving my first marriage ceremony for a gay couple.

The reason "It should be between a man and a woman" always stops right there with those words. I want to know, who came up with that rule? You? Your mom? Your dad? God? Who? That answer means absolutely nothing. The same thing applies to the classic "It's wrong: answer too.

There are three definitions of marriage in the Merriam-Webster dictionary. The first one defines it as a contract between a straight couple. The second defines a contract between a gay couple. The third is simply "a close and civil union". So by definition, marriage is NOT strictly between a man and a woman.

And by the way, according to the Constitution and the Establishment Clause, denying someone the right to marry based on their orientation is ILLEGAL. They pay taxes just like everyone else. Equal taxes should mean equal rights.

Blessed Be.

Edit: Say, have you noticed a lot of people are answering with things like, "The Bible says it's wrong" and "God doesn't like it"? Notice that? Well we have something called the Establishment Clause which means Separation of Church and State. This means that no law belonging to any religion will be forced upon the nation. So the whole thing about it being in the bible is also completely pointless and nullified by the Clause.

Marriage is a wonderful concept and it's, well, interesting that Gays are interested it in. I hope it's genuine interest and not just "doing it because it can't be done" -- pushing the boundaries.

We'll know in about 100 years when Gay Divorces start to happen and some rich guy has to pay Fed-Ex a big chunk of what he or she makes.

Let's see then if Homo's get as disenchated with marraige as hetero's currently are and hetero marriages are on the DECLINE.

That's what I really want to see.

I want to see if it's FOR LIFE or just until you don't like them anymore, which is what is happening with Hetero marraiges.

We'll talk more then.

I wonder why Lawyers don't attend weddings and hand out cards saying DIVORCE ATTORNEY

After all, Personal Injury Lawyers do chase ambulances.

Blood sucking Lawyers are far better than God at regulating human behavior!

When Gay rich guys have to pay $4,000 a month in "spousal support" for 4 or 10 years, let's see how "wonderful" marriage is.

Marriage is just a way to get a tax break, at least here in the USA. If two men want to marry each other, they should be able to! Ditto for two women as well. I could go on for hours about how marriage is terribly over-rated anyway, but let's not and say we did.

Why can't you just fall in love, exchange some small gift, and declare yourselves married? Skip the license and the blood test and the certificate and the $50,000 reception and the photographer and the freakin Chicken Dance etc etc etc...

i'm more than chuffed for them. I also wish that it shows some thing each and every of the homophobes who held them down for therefore long claiming that their discrimination become justified as protecting the sanctity of marriage. I continuously wondered how the heck this variety of holy union will be threatened by technique of those suffering to embody it? With divorce charges the way that they are, i imagine that's honest to say that instantly human beings have failed! So enable's provide some different person a attempt ;P

I'm so sad to realize that our country is being run by religious fanatics. who cares what sex you are as long as your happy. Ive studied the bible and in the bible it says that sex between two of the same is a sin. it also says that divorce is a sin. what gives? i say be married, be happy who cares if there gay, bi or what ever. just be happy.

Because homosexuality is a sin...Here's the thing...Most homosexuals know how most religions view homosexuality as wrong, immoral or a sin...And by continuing to be homosexual they obviously don't care, what anyone including God has to say, right?

Marriage was a commitment between man & woman in the face of God. How can homosexuals, that know what God says still want to be married if they know it is a ceremony in the face of God, the same God who condemns their behavior? Why would thay want to? While I don't doubt the strong feeling two men or two woman may have for eachother, I feel there are only to reasons why they would enter into a marriage: 1) For financial reasons & to have equal rights of being a spouse, since most hospitals will only allow family to visit, etc. 2.) Just to say they did, becasue others said they couldn't. I do not understand why they would want to, commit to eachother before God? If they choose to do, what they do, that is one thing but to make a mockery out of what is supposed to be a sacred union between man & woman in the face of God, baffels me.

BTW, My brother-in-law is Gay. We usually just agree to disagree. I am secure in my marriage & my salvation that if homosexuals get married it doesn't threaten my realtionship with God.

The Bible has many verses explaining the sin of homosexuality. I will not list them here because its alot. marriage is not entirely based on love. True, love is a part of marriage, but it goes much deeper than that. There are aspects of men and women that naturally go together. Look at the human body, we were made to be hetero. Look at nature. Only heterosexuals can have children (as in without sperm banks, you might say, well evolution..blah blah blah, thats another question). Look at the amount of diseases that have come from homosexual relations. Men and women come together in holy matrimony, as God intended, and create a new life together separate, but including their parents/family/friends. Also, i have seen a statistic that only 5% of homosexuals have a relationship longer than 3 years. A marriage is something that is the ultimate commitment (besides following God). It is much more than love/lust.

check the site below for more info. you can also check Christian Ethics:Norman Geisler for other info as to homosexual adoption and the like.

well put papa g

Many people have trouble making the separation between thier religious definitions and legal definitions. Seems like that shouldn't be a problem in the US, but it still is.

Gay marriage is wrong
What does it accomplish? truly, it makes 2 people happy together, of course, but then 68% of these relationships are going to end after 2 years of marriage. And AIDS until we find a cure for it, shouldn't we be restricting gay marriage? or for that matter, promoting abstinence?
