I requested for my income tax refund to be deposited into my mothers checking account, because I don't have a new one opened since I have moved. Has anyone ever done this and did it go through ok?

It will not go though. The IRS will verify that the name on the account matches exactly the name on the tax return. If you are filing a joint return, both of your names need to be on the bank account. You can never use somebody elses name. What will happen is, once the IRS realizes the account number and your name do not match, they will convert the refund to a paper check and mail it to the address you used on the return.

Great question.

My brother tried to have his return direct deposited into my account and it got kicked back...and we both had the same last name and 1st initial. The IRS ended up sending him a check, but it took about 3 weeks longer.

Your deposit will be returned to the IRS by the bank. It will then be converted to a paper check and mailed to the address that is on your return.

I hope your new address is on the return, since your check will not be forwarded to a different address.

The bank will reject it. And the refund will be mailed to you via check.
