Why can't he? He's the adult, you're the kid.

Perhaps he is not trying to "Boss" you around. Maybe he just cares about you and wants whats best for you.
Perhaps you would rather have a parent who doesn't give a crap about you. There are plenty of those parents around.
If you ask any of those kids for an honest answer, they will tell you they wish their parents didn't ignore them so much.
When you are a parent someday, you will understand this.
I doubt you will just let your kids come and go as they please and never ask them questions. If you truly love your children, you get involved. I had strict parents and hated them. My friends could do whatever they wanted and their parents never hassled them.
Now that I am older, I see the results of the different styles of
parenting. I am successful and all my friends who had the "Easy" "Kool" parents are all in drug rehab or living in the gutter or working low paying jobs. Their parents lousy parenting skills doomed these friends of mine to a nothing life.
This is not love, it is neglect. If a parent truly loves their children, they will give them boundaries and help them to become successful in life. It may suck when you are younger, but when you are older, you will appreciate it and love your parents for loving you.

This is what happens when mothers who have divorced their kid's father and then brings another man in their kid's lives to live with them and then it creates more drama in the home. The ones who suffer the most are the kids.

You need to respect him and be polite. It will be hard to do, but do that until you are able to move out and be on your own. Just do your best to keep the peace. Be nice to him, he will be nice to you. If he is just yelling at you for nothing, then you need to let your mom know what's going on between the two of you.

Not sure how old you are; but you should be thanking your step dad if he helps provide shelter and food and clothing for you. You are not even his child. If he being good to you than appriciate and hope if you are in the situation your mother was in being a single with a kid(s) that some great and caring man will put with your brats and help take care and raise them.

you are supose to respect your elders....he prolly on tells you to do things b/c he cares about you and wants you to grow up responsible try just listening to what his says every now and then is there any real reason NOT to listen to him besides the fact that he is a stepFATHER.....father is still in the word. Just listen occasionally and the fighting will stop or at least decrease.

He is resenting the fact that you do not respect him as a person. If I were you, I would sit down and have a chat with him. If you show him respect as a person and think about his advice even if you don't care he will feel respected that you considered to listen. Take care Heather

Where is your mother while this is going on?

Talk to your mother about how you're feeling and ask her to talk to your step-father so that you can all live in the same house peacefully.

Family counseling sounds like a good idea.

if you live under his roof than he does have a right to tell you what to do, instead of being a brat why not respect your elders and listen to what he has to say ... it's probably in your best interest ... one day you'll be sorry you didn't have a better relationship with a man who was there for you.

Does he pay for your housing? Does he provide you with food? Then he can and has the right to boss you around. Stop being lazy and earn your food.

Better find yourself a pimp because you are headed for the streets and doing tricks for your habit and the little skirts. Get a big black guy with a real big gun. Those kind slap a lot but they collect the money and give you enough to feed your habit.
