I went to Bootcamp in Orlando Florida in 1989. There is not alot of swimming. You are required to beable to swim and tread water for about 10 min.
After Boot there is no swimming required, unless you volunteer for Seal training or something like that.

when I went 8 years ago there wasn't a lot of swimming. You really need to know how to tread water though. If you aren't that good of a swimmer they will give you basic lessons to get you to qualify as a class 3.
Once you get to the fleet you never have to swim again unless you want to or their is an emergency that requires you to.
