Among those things that you feel strongly about and those things that you don't know about, in politics, what brought you to feeling the way that you do? Were you raised a certain way by your parents? Your religion? Did you figure it all out by yourself?

A persons political ideas are shaped by the environment in which they live. If your father was a conservative will that make you one to? Not really.Your political views are based on how you see the world, what you judge to be right or wrong and what your ideals are.

I grew up in a family that voted Liberal (in Canada, that means a very conservative, free enterprise system). My initial political view leant more toward the conserbvative party.
As I have come to see the contributions our socialist party (New Democratic Party) has made without even being in power (our social health system), and as I have seen the suffering of so many under our capitalist system, I have been leaning more and more towared a socialist view. The conservatives have some values that I share, as do the liberals and the socialists. But right now I believe the socialists are what we need. To be a more prosperous country? I don't know. But certainly to be a more fair country.

I am a well read and watch C-Span on the congressional way of voting.I belong to a union and for about 14 yrs I believed who and what I should vote for until "Slick Willie" said NAFTA and GATT would be vetoed if it made it to his desk. Him and along with a democratic controlled congress passed both so fsat it would make your head spin and from then on out"I" not what someone told me to vote for but decided to figure out who best represents my point of views.

almost entirely from my life experience and my absolute refusal to just "believe what I'm told".

it's funny my political opinions are exactly the opposite of what they were when i graduated high school, it only took a few years in the real world for me to "get a clue", too bad some people never pull the blinders off.

my original opinions were given to me through a process of indoctrination by the school system and my parents.
