Depends on what state you're in and if you've been sentenced to "hard time" or not. It also depends on how long it takes DOC to call your number. I stayed in the parish for 2 weeks after I was sentenced. Then the early morning came when DOC racked my bars and took me away. However, I've known guys that have sat in Orleans Parish for up to 5 years. You can always shoot requests out to the captain or whoever assigns jobs at your county and get on there as a trustee usually if you have 2 years or under. But like I said, I'm sure it varies from state to state.

Generally, sentences in county jails can only be for one year. A sentence of a year and a day (or longer) must be served in a prison facility.
