Why couldn't he just create us to be immortal too and secure from death. It seems that an eternal god is cruel because he never has to face death. That he created life that does suffer, doesn't speak much about him. It's clear that in most religions (of the west) that humans are portrayed as small and mortal. It's like the rich imposing on the poor. Then god expects us to love and worship him?

And the afterlife has no meaning here. I'm talking about this life, the only life we are guaranteed. They only one we are SURE is real. We are alive and aware and conscious, right now.

One of the millions of reasons I have a hard time accepting some religious ideas. You cannot question any traditional belief or else they whole story falls apart and doesn't make any sense. First of all, I'm sure the 'answer' to that is in the Bible but I don't know the Bible's explanation to that one. Secondly, if we were all immortal in this life (the one we all 'know' is real) the world would collapse and become overpopulated in a matter of a few generations. There would be no way to support life if every living being lived forever. We'd be piled on top of each other, 1000 people deep. Life would seem even more pointless that way. We would just lay there reproducing and starving but unable to die. That sounds a lot worse that death to me.

I have a very hard time believing in God in the traditional sense without having to believe in some sort of 'afterlife' where our 'spirit' is immortal. Without that, the idea of a God putting us on earth just to die in the end with no 'reward' seems pointless and too insane. You have to believe that death is some sort of gateway into a 'new' life or else the God thing sort of falls apart. It's one of the reasons I'm an 'unbeliever' since it's difficult to accept only part of a Abrahamic religion without having to accept the whole immortal afterlife thing too. If God does not judge us for our behavior on earth, then what's the point of this life if we are just going to have an 'afterlife' anyway? The only 'logical' explanation for this life would then be that it's a 'test' to see if we are worthy of an afterlife. If you believe it's some sort of test, than you are 'forced' to follow the 'rules' in the religious text so that you can get that afterlife.

'Immortality' can only take place somewhere where there is infinite space for all of us to live. I suppose that's why people say it only happens after death. 'Heaven' (or whatever) supposedly has room for everybody. Either the religious people are totally right and there are no mistakes in the Bible, etc. or else they are very wrong and there is no God as 'we' know it.

The myth is that the tree of life was to make our body gain immotality, but you know how the story goes in the garden. The soul is immortal, not the body, but who would want this body with all its # 1 and #2 to be immortal and its ability to become diseased to be immortal??? But then sin entered the world and the tree was no longer needed because of sin, death came as well and an angel was put at the entrance of the garden, so no one could enter the garden and eat of the fruit of the tree of life.

if it was explained to you in detail you wouldn't get it because you do not want to.
if you think the "afterlife" has no meaning here then you are living only half of life. the real joy comes now in knowing where you will spend eternity, after all, eternity will last much longer than this part of life.

KNOW JESUS KNOW PEACE

NO JESUS NO PEACE!

It is really that simple. ( by the way, I do not mind a "thumbs down for my answer. The truth is rarely popular these days.)

The One True God has absolute power to create anything, living or dead.
But in fact, His ceation is eternally living. Nothing is dead or lost. Physical objects only change forms of existence, and we wrongly think that they are dead or lost. Dust moves up to ceaselessly enjoy the vegetal, animal and human life.
The human souls are more precious than physical objects, how can they be lost? All the Messengers of God teach that the souls continue to gloriously exist in the spiritual world with the appearances more suitable to that realm. We will understand better this fact, if we seriously make throughout study of the Holy Books.
We will continue to exist like dust if we use our free will to decide to learn only the things concerning dust. Right now, you say that your feeling, your awareness, your consciousness are real and precious, why don't you take time to learn about them in psychology, in philosophy, in literature, in the spiritual and divine sciences... to get more illuminating facts about them.

In my opinion, death is not suffering. We obviously have different viewpoints on the subject. Science has always taught us that everything on this Earth lives and dies at the end of it's life cycle. That is perfectly normal and nothing to fear. I will be honest with you. I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal savior. What I am trying to convey to you is that I am perfectly willing to follow him. Believing in the Lord Jesus Christ has given me so much strength and peace I am not afraid of what lies ahead for me. Of course, I'm not perfect. But Jesus reaches down to us all the time. This may be more than you can bear right now but I want you to just consider: John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

God did suffer death. we call that Jesus dieing on the cross. He knows what we go through and He went through it himself. If we were immortal, then there is no reason for anything. Why go to school and learn, just gonna be alive the next millenia. It would be the worst thing possible to live forever (in this world). Eventually you would want to die, but you couldn't.

God didn't create death we did; when we disobey and sin.
sin created death.
That is why when Jesus comes back death will be swallow up.
Death and sin will be no more.
" God created Adam and Eve immortal but, by them sinning they brought death upon themself that was why they had to leave the garden fearing they would eat from the tree of life and remain in they sinfull condition forever.
Genesis 3:22-24
But we can reclaim our original state by accepting Jesus Christ, when He comes back we can all rejoice together.
"THROUGH ADAM SINS COMES INTO THE WORLD AND DEATH TROUGH SIN; EVEN SO TROUGH JESUS CHRIST GRACE AND LIFE COME TO ANYBODY THAT ACCEPT HIM"

There are things people don't understand about God. I also asked the same question to my father and he said that God has His own reasons. He also said that he created us to worship Him. He is God and he has to have worshipers. Notice that all living things has their own way on praising and worshipping God. Even stars that shine at night trees that bow down and animals have their own ways.

Our body is mortal but our spirit lives on. It goes back to God because we are part of Him. =)

I refuse to believe that most people today are aware and conscious, but I only judge on the basis of their actions.

Our bodies die but our souls are eternal, God does not see our deaths as an ending, but as a beginning of our journey back to Him.
God is not 'immortal', God is infinite
