You can ask your doctor about getting a cognitive assessment. Yyou should first make certain that there are no medical reasons for this. Once you've ruled out a medical problem that can be helped, you could try a DIY book on improving your memory. You'll be getting virtually the same help that you would if you took any type of a program or course, and you can instead do this on your own.
Besides, as we age, we can begin to have some cognitive problems, and the only real way to slow them down is to keep our brains active and learning.
Now, according to whom is forgetting something once a day a serious memory problem? Do you have to be told the same thing 3 or 4 times in half an hour? That's just one example, and at that level, it's a problem that's considered to be a MILD cognitive impairment. That's precisely what we've been going through with our mother, and the remedies that I listed above are the same ones that are used in the memory intervention program that she just finished.
I just spent the afternoon and early evening with my mother, and I noticed a significant difference, for the better, between her abilities today and what they were before she started that program, three months ago.
There is another component to that program, and it's a major one. WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN. Use a Palm Pilot or Blackberry if you're used to them, or use an old-fashioned day planner, but write everything down. It helps greatly.

That is called being absent-minded isn't it? I do the same thing, but it does come to me after a few minutes. If you are always taking care of lots of things at once, its normal. At least I sure hope so, 'cause I'm the same way and I'm not worried about it. I accomplish many tasks daily. As long as you're functioning properly you're ok. If you're doing things like forgetting you have something on the stove and repeatedly having close calls with almost burning down the house then you should worry and talk to a dr. Hope I've been of some help....

Try writing stuff down, like a to do list to help you stay focused. Just don't forget where you put the list :) Don't stress over it either. If you forget what you are trying to do then maybe it wasn't that important or maybe you were not meant to do it. Do something else until you can remember what it was. If it is important, you will remember easily. You can also say to yourself what you are doing to help you stay in the moment for example the silly song-"this is the way we write a to do list, write a to do list, write a to do list."

Are you suffering any powerful stressors? Such as divorce, sick child, death in family, financial problems or things like that?
That in itself will cause severe memory problems.
How old are you?
Are you taking any medications (for anything)?
Have you been sleeping alright?
Do you spend a lot of time alone?
Have you suffered any trauma recently or in the past?
Are you/have you abusing(ed) drugs or alcohol?
There are a lot of questions that need to be asked before you can find out what might be causing this.
I feel for you because I have been going through that for several years now. Mine is caused by a number of things including epilepsy, damage to my temporal lobe and my cerebral cortex, severe drug and alcohol abuse in the past, and many other things.
Depending on how you answered the questions might indicate simple or serious problems. See your doctor because chances are it's nothing major.
God Bless and thnx for reading.

seriously, go to the AARP site and do the memory testing games there, then go to a Neurologist, there may be a physical reason (trauma, meds, infections, swelling of the brain)
hope this helps

get tested for hepatitis c...(or b).
this is the main reason why heppers seek help. the virus passes the blood brain barrier and can shorten memory span...immensely!
there are many other symptoms, however, not all heppers have them!
