we're 8 years apart. (im 23) Isnt he supposed to be the more mature one in most ways? Cause he acts like a teenager sometimes. always in those hyper moods. He didnt finish college, and calls himself stupid, But is he ACTUALLY stupid?! I dont understand if he's joking. He failed 2 years from graduating from highschool and had trouble with paying attention/ focusing on the work. Is that serious?? We are moving into a different state soon, and he'll have to change his job, can he get back into college?

It's possible he has just a problem with confidence, I know I do. I'm 34, haven't finished college and certainly don't seem to fit in with most of the people my age. I can easily fit in with the younger crowd and am looking for a girlfriend in that age group since the ones my age don't take me seriously.

He probably can get back into college but he might have to take some college prep.

Ask yourself: how important is it to you is it that he goes back to college? Isn't he good enough for you as is or is this something he wants to do to improve himself? If you can't accept him for who he is do you love this guy and/or want to be with him?

He can always go back to school. He can start at community college and then transfer to a 4 year university. It sounds like he's just on of those chronic slackers but that doesn't mean he's clinically stupid. Maybe he needs to get on some meds to help him focus?

he may have adult ADHD...attention deficit syndrome. my son had trouble focusing and all that in school... now he is on a medication called concerta and has brought his grades up alot... he will have to take this medication for the rest of his life.... have your bf go and be checked for Adult ADHD if he does have it he is miserable and really needs the help.. so that he can live a normal life...

Your bf is not stupid... if he does have ADHD then when he begins taking the meds there will be a 180 turn around...

I think he's playing with you. I'm into online relationships and I understand how it all works. I think the guy in the chat room was likely a girl??? because it preoccupied him over an above yourself. Also he asked you if you trust him and that's a sign that he's trying to discover whether you believed what he told you to be the truth. People in online relationships often lie like pigs in sh!t so only trust what you can prove to yourself to be true. Oh, for those of you who wonder, I'm not the Richard referred to. I'm Richard C :-)

Men are usually hard on themselves, and if they don't succeed at something they call themselves stupid. I don't think your boyfriend is actually stupid, but he may have a case of ADHD (attention deficit disorder) which can make it difficult for some people to focus/pay attention.

Calling himself stupid is just an excuse for not finishing school.

Does he even have a job? A real job?

If he's 31 and acting like that, then I'd have to wonder...

It seems with his past, he probably won't be attending college soon. Maybe talk to him about where he sees himself in a couple of years and what he wants to do with his life. If you see this going nowhere, you might have to make a choice of moving without or with him.

Believe what he is saying to you, he feels stupid but he may not be. He just feels that way because of some failure in his life. It's never to late to go back to school collage etc; But yes he is being forthright with you. Good luck... :) By the way he's not a failure we all have our weaknesses.

He should probably go to a community college and then go out to more serious things before he messes up on another opportunity. Or maybe he has ADD.

He can correct his past mistakes by going back to school. He will need to take a GED before getting in to college though. Best of luck to you both.
