I work at a 2 year college library.
It is not true that you can't get other degrees dealing with the first degree. If you graduate from a 2 year college you have an Associates degree, from there you are real close to a Bachelors.
In some respects a 2 year is a good thing. You can get many of your basic classes out of the way and 2 year colleges are generally a lot cheaper than 4 year universities.
It also is good to help students make the adjustment from high school to college since they are so different.
We have many students who made the big jump to the 4 year, got overwhelmed and are now attending the 2 year to get their GPA up.

You need a finished Bachelor's degree (usually in a related area) before entering a Master's program (just look at any admissions requirements). You should totally be able to transfer into a Bachelor's program though (especially if you're going to pursue the same major). In some Bachelor's programs (if you're a good student, etc.), there is an "extra" year and you can earn a Master's... a 5-year Bachelor's/Master's degree....

I've never heard of any such policy. A particular 4-year program may not allow you transfer credits from a 2-year program but it is not a general rule that completing a 2-year program will keep you out of a 4-year program.
If you are considering a 2-year program and think you might like to continue studying in the major, I'd ask the 2-year school about transfer possibilities. Usually such programs have relationships with 4-year school in the region. They should be able to tell you how many people continue on at other schools and which schools are most likely to accept you. I'd then contact the 4-year programs and find out about the transfer process: how many credits do they take, what percentage of 2-year grads do they accept.
Good luck!

got an associates degree. good for you. has nothing to do with getting another degree. like if you got an associates degree in accounting, that should not prevent you from getting a bachelors in accounting. it could probably even help. from the bachelors, a masters in accounting could be next. a degree from a two year school should not stop you from getting another degree in the same category. good luck.

That is NOT true.
I have an AA degree and I am able anytime to go to a 4 year college and complete my education to get a BA or a masters.
I chose to stop at the AA to be able to devote my time to raising a family full-time at this point in my life.

no..that is not true..
you can always apply to school and further your education in the same field or course of studies..you might even have some credits to carry over ( not always, check with the school upon applying to see if they are transferable or still valid ..sometimes it depends on the studies ) ..
School admissions love to get students who are already familiar with the degree they are seeking and it will also help with the more advanced classes you will be taking..

If you get an associates degree (2 year degree), it is easily transfered to a four year institution, you can apply it to you Bachelor's degree and you have to have a bachelor's degree before you persue a Masters.

ok let me answer to the best of what i am thinking you are asking.... if you are asking if a 2 yr degree is the same as a 4 yr degree then no they are not the same what you are talking about are assosiate degrees and bacholors degrees which are totally different.
in order to get your masters in something you must have a BS or BA (bacholor of arts or bacholor of science) your masters comes in graduate school. and inorder to be accepted into graduate school for study in your masters you much be claiming something in the field of your BS or BA ...
there is nothing saying you can not start with an assosiates degree in something then use that to aid you in getting your bacholors in it folled by your masters however
so again if i am thinking your question correctly then yes its true you cant get a Bacholors degree in a 2 yr school and your studies in your masters must be in a related field but not ness the exact same
