Is paper training our out side training best? Which ever one you pick please tell me the best way to do it. I have not had any luck with potty training in the past.

It's not potty training. It is HOUSE training. If the dog is to stay in the house, paper training has worked for me. AND, you can never let the pup roam the house unsupervised. You have to keep it barricaded in one area and gradually decrease the papered area. You have to clean the floor VERY well under the papered area that you are removing.

Pup should be walked after each feeding and before it goes down or is kenneled for the night, and first thing in thr morning and when you get home. Get on a regular schedule. If the dog begins to squat in the house, you must say NO! very sternly, and pick the dog up and take it outside. Clean any spots immediately as they will seek them out to squat over again. Reward good behavior with a lot of love and sometimes treats, and a swat or a water bottle squirt for unwanted behavior. Your pleasure and love should be a great reward, rather than relying on treats.

This takes time and patience. It may take 6 weeks and the pup will make mistakes. You just have to be consistent and firm, without getting angry and truly scaring the dog.

Oh boy!!!!! You're in for a real treat since Jack Russell Terriers are one of the most active little dogs.

Make it a "rule" that every time your pup eats, sleeps, or drinks, you take her outside. Don't forget to take her out after she plays hard. If you have a kennel or crate inside, limit the time that the puppy is out (and is supervised). A 6 week old pup will learn best with repetition. Good luck.....and enjoy those puppy months. Be extra generous with the "praise" when she does well and don't make a big deal about accidents.

Get to the vet asap, i would question that the wormers had been from a vets as you don't have to re medicate that traditionally and he's most effective 7 weeks old. I would get keep of the humans you obtained him off and find out what brand the wormers were. The pup can have acquired diarrhoea due to a reaction to the pill but will have to not still be going after 4 days. The vet will propose you as to what to do. Feeding him must be stopped for 24 hours and best water put right down to drink. After the 24 hours, if the diarrhoea has stopped feed small amounts of boiled rice and white fish or boiled hen. This is gentle on the stomach and can support bind the stools together again. If the diarrhoea hasn't stopped it is the vet thats needed. This is endorse handiest so PLEASE take your pup to a VET as they're those who are educated in animal care. I anticipate your pup hasn't had its injections both so he might have picked up a doggie virus / illness that will want treating. I am hoping your pup recovers quickly x

At 6 weeks old don't even bother trying, she is just a baby. Give her another month then start taking her outside several times. I mean like 8 or 10 times a day. When she potty's outside, praise her highly then bring her back in. Be sure she doesn't associate being outside with play, but only with going to potty.
If you see her do it in the house, yell NO very loudly at her and immediately take her outside even if she's already done it all on the floor. Scold her ONLY if you see her do it inside because she will not remember a minute after she's done it.
Don't expect too much too soon because dogs don't have complete control of themselves until about 6 months of age.

Don't do paper training; you'll only have to break them of that habit later on.

Even though it's winter, it's best to potty train outside. Also, when you can't be watching your dog or if it's time for bed, put your dog in a partitioned off crate that only the dog can turn around in and lie down in. Take your dog out OFTEN to go to the bathroom. Just think of how small a JRT's bladder is. They can't hold it all day.

Good luck!

I am litter box training my 9 1/2 wk old pom puppy which I got when he was 8 wks. He was crate trained and would potty outside. Since I live in an apt bldg, I started paper training him. He took to it pretty well. Then I upgraded to a litter box with newspaper pellets. It's working out well, except the pellets are messy. I am going to get a wizdog to make things easier (it's a doggy litter box with a grate that flips over so the poop goes right on to the newspaper beneath it). Go to Wizdog.com if you want to see it for yourself. A really good website on litterbox training is:

Good luck! Young puppies need to pee very often! I am so glad I am litterbox training him since it would take too long to get downstairs and to the street in time for him to do his business!

Unless you live in an apartment or never intend for the dog to go outside, I wouls STRONGLY suggest you NOT do paper or pad training! This only sends the message that going potty in the house is acceptable and that's the thing you're trying to avoid. I always suggest crate training. It's the best method out there! But PLEASE ignore the person who said to hit your dog. Hitting an animal is NEVER an option!!!!! Hitting only instills fear or aggression to protect itself and has absolutely no bearing on what you are trying to teach. I get sick to my stomach everytime I see someone suggest that! Here's some good info for you on crate training. Worked perfect for both of my Lab pups and all of my sisters dogs:

Hi, I hope this might help you. I have a Jack her name is Sadie and she is very head strong. I don't know if you have ever had this breed or not, but if not you need to get a book on them. Sadie is very smart she knows when she has done something wrong, like potting on the carpet. I got training pads for her and she seems to go to them better then the carpet now. And when she dose something good I always give her what we call a cookie. A dog treat. you have to be very firm with Jacks. I hope this helps some but you are in for a big job if you have never owned one of this breed. They are great animals to love and full of surprises.

6 weeks old is 2 weeks too young for a puppy to be away from it's mother. It's illegal to sell a puppy under 8 weeks. :(

Outside training :) Crate training is my favorite way. Keep the dog with you at all times, on a leash, or whatever, so he/she doesn't have the opportunity to use the restroom in the house. Take her out every 1 or 2 hours, and after meals, until he/she poops. When you can't, keep an eye on him/her, like when you're not home or sleeping, put him/her in a crate. They will learn not to mess in their crate :)
