Believe it or not.... because you can make poison from the shells and they have been banned for terrorist reasons.

You cannot buy shelled ones in the UK at all now.

The idiots in Brussels decided that the shells were poisonous and so should be banned, I can't recall anyone being killed by inadvertently eating a piece but there you are. I think that it is just that the EU dictators like to kill all the joy out of life and trying to extract a Brazil nut whole was one of those games.

I think mostly available as described for Christmas consumption.

Perhaps you will see them available again next Christmas Season.

Perhaps they have discovered the toxin that gives me an itchy tongue when I eat them resides in the shell and is actually toxic to all.

You can buy Brazil Nuts without shell in the health food shop.

Hi, Not sure where you are located, but where I am we haven't had a problem finding any. They usually sell them in bulk at the grocery stores here, or what we usually do is buy a bag of mixed nuts (has pecans, walnuts, almonds, filberts, & brazil nuts).......they are put out by DIAMOND (not Blue Diamond). We got it at our local Wegmans grocery store (only on the East coast), but I'm sure they are sold elsewhere. Good luck!

I got some at Halloween in shells but mostly i only see nuts in shells around this time ,i suppose they last longer shelled and if kept in shell they go off.
you know how annoying it is you crack the nut open looking forward and its not looking to good so you give it a nibble and yuk its off.lol

I can never get the shell off them without them breaking anyway. I love 'em so would rather buy them ready-shelled. I can eat them quicker!

I hadn't noticed you couldn't. Don't they sell mixed nuts with their shells on still in bags? I actually prefer to buy them ready shelled, its so much easier...dipped in chocolate and served with raisins and sultanas.............
