This person does not eat all day, then at night sometimes eats a lot, sometimes doesn't. It is normally the same kind of things, just low-carb, low-fat, under 1000 calories. She always takes a fat-blocker if it's more than 5 grams of fat. And if she feels guilty, she does stuff to get rid of it (laxies, always). Sometimes she eats and eats and it isn't low fat or low carb or low sugar. Sounds to me like she is just a pig. She gained 10 lbs doing this and hates herself.
Is this an eating disorder?

Yes. These are chariteristics of an eating disorder.
Anyone who HATES themselves for gaining weight has a problem, that's not normal behavior.
Eating only one meal a day is unhealthy and taking a fat blocker is not only useless but also unhealthy... Also, laxitives should only be taken when you have serious bowel problems... I will tell you right now, that if a person uses laxatives too frequently they WILL lose control of that function and will eventually have to wear adult diapers.
This person needs to seek help from a qualified professional....

Yes!!!
I have a friend in her late 20s that is dieting to be in pageant. Eating as little as a sugar-free jello and a cup of coffee a day, for a month. Near her pageant date, she was hit by a car going 20 mph and damage few of her organ. If she would have had more fat, that fat would have protect her from the impact.
Ask your friend to go the doctor to check her IBM,if her weight is ideal to her height and measurement.
She might think that her youth and is once in a lifetime; and that she will make it up later. But the fact of her health is poor now will seriously cause diabetes, high risk of miscarriage, liver damage, etc. I include his web page on the bottom. Hope she will get better. Best Wish.

Yes, and with the use of laxatives, this could not only be an ED but very dangerous. Abuse of laxatives is just as dangerous as vomiting after eating, and qualifies as a form of purging, hence she could have some kind of bulimia.
I wish you luck with this. I've always been on the other end of the eating disorder dynamic, me being the person with the problem. I can only imagine how stressful it would be to have someone you care about doing this to herself. Just try to show her support, and if you do confront her about it...be gentle but firm. State the facts of what you think she is doing that is problematic. Tell her what you observe, not "I think you're bulimic." I guess, straight-forward but not accusatory. You will just push her into self-defense. But above all, show her love and caring.

Use of laxatives to get rid of food
Bingeing
hates herself
abnormal diet
What else? Does she base her self evaluation just on body shape and weight?
Outgoing, with some depressive moods, or perfectionistic and overachieving?
Any strenuous exercising to lose weight?
How much does she weigh?
Does she provoke herself to vomit?
It sounds like an eating disorder
Bulimia is with bingeing, these people tend to be of normal weight. They are at risk of ruining their teeth among other things.
Anorexia nervosa is more dangerous than bulimia and some patients even die.
This person needs help, urgently.

This is definitely disordered eating, sounds like the poor girl needs to talk to a professional about that. She's already putting her health at risk, it would be better to seek treatment or at least talk to friends and try to establish a more normal, healthy eating plan.
