pro: everyone would be able to see a MD whether they can afford it or not.. our ERs would not be overrun by people going in for colds and toe aches because they couldn't afford to go to the MD and pay $50 up front to be seen.
Everyone will have the medicine they need . As it is people have to take drugs that half the time don't work just because it's generic and cheaper..
Doctors and med staff won't be treating everyone differently.. I am on medicare and medicaid and I get treated a LOT differently than someone on private insurance..especially in patient care..
MD's wont' double the cost of visits if u have insurance.. My mom told them she had insurance they charged her $150.. she later told them she had none.. they charged her $35.. IT would be easier to find care.. People on medicaid/medicare are limited as to who they can see.. In our city there is only one psychiatrist that will see adults with medicare..plenty if u have insurance.. Most MD"s won't take medicare/medicaid at all because they only pay less than half of the usual fee.

Possible pros:
Government regulation of pro-pharm
Access for all social classes
Unlimited risk distribution
Unlimited catastrophic care
Possible benefit to doctors in a insurance free practice (of course a government controlled practice might be worse)
Distribution of costs over a larger portion of society
Less chance of profit to dictate the course of medical research
There are others, but there are a lot of drawbacks too, but hey that's life

It would work better than our present system if a good mix of people would formulate a plan. Why not all the think tanks, associations and normal citizens to start discussions on a plan?
