i saw an answer to a previous question, that stated: "how can you be a christian, if you don't know anything about the religion." good point. does being born (from birth) into a religion automatically make you part of it? or is it your choices you make along your life's journey that plays a bigger factor?

what do you guys think?

Well, Look at this from this perspective...

Being "Born into a religion" is nothing more than systematic brainwashing. Before I get flamed, here is an example...If a white supremacist has a child and teaches the child through ought it's life that other races are superior...the child will most likely not question this belief and in fact espouse it and try to convince others that it is true. In some cases they will see that they are wrong, however most of the time this is not the case.

If you think about it, religion work the same way...If you are born into it and taught that this religion is the ONLY correct one and that if you don't believe something bad will happen to you. As a child you believe it. The fear of something like burning forever in hell totally affects children. This "brainwashing" of sorts will stick with the child for a long time if not permanently.

Some religion's followers follow pretty closely...The christian religion however is widely skewed, and haphazardly, cherry picked to death. Even those who claim that they rigorously follow do not truly follow. If they did, there would be a lot more public stoning...which is of course against the law...

I just figured I'd throw that out there for some intelligent food for thought. since I follow no religion at all...I don't have to justify anything!

Not all Christians do this. As somebody who used to follow that philosophy, I may be able to give you an answer, though. I would say those exact things because of all the differences I'd find in churches I'd go to. I'd become so frustrated with trying to figure out what I was "supposed" to believe, I finally gave up. I grabbed my Bible and started reading. I do have a personal relationship with Jesus, and through the Bible I learned the way He wanted me to live. Therefore, I didn't identify myself with any certain denomination of Christianity. I simply lived as the Bible told me I should.

Nothing needs to justify what you believe as long as you believe in it. You should know what you believe though, not be afraid to seek out answers and ask questions.

You are born into the Glory of God. Not a religion. A religion is what you choose to believe in.

People are actually born with no belief, they are atheists by default. You can be raised in a religion and become indoctrinated with it. No one who is indoctrinated is going to admit that they just accepted what they were always told since they were young.

When a person does start to seriously consider the alternative options they often change religions or drop religion completely.

only Jesus Christ justifies my belief.
religion "per se" is of very little importance.
what is important is YOUR personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
don't get hung up on "religion".
John 3: The Words of Jesus Christ (God in the flesh)
3. "Verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God."
4. Nicodemus saith unto Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?"
5. Jesus answered, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God."
6. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."
16. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18. He that believeth on Him is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

In Christianity, God has no grandchildren. There may be a heritage of Christianity but each individual must be born of the Spirit as Jesus told the Teacher of Isreal.

I do not believe in the validity or justice of "justification" or finding ways to rationalize a lie into a truth

I know plenty about christianity, was a former minister who once I did learn the ins/outs of it in it's entirety and the dynamics, I saw that simply those who did not know "believed" and those that did know were closet atheists who manipulated the 'sheep'

most people are all born into a religion, but we have the choice when we are older either to accept or reject our faith. It is up to us to decide. Some people are born into christianity, but aren't even religious. Other aren't born as christians and convert later on. It is up to the person, if they wish to follow Jesus with their hearts and trust in him througout their lives.

First of all, religion is simply what you believe. Being born into a certain belief doesn't do anything for your soul, you have to affirm your faith yourself. That is something that no one else can do for you.
