Don't you wonder about some people's parenting skills? They seem to think it's their job to have them, not to raise them. Would an exam and license help?

Total agreement. My best friend and I talk about this all the time. These days you have to have a license or degree to succeed in everything you do. Except parenting. Which I believe is the single most important thing in this world you can do. I think if more people had to put an effort into keeping their children, they would be less likely to have so many unwanted children.

Oh, I've often thought that! I have a neighbor who tossed her 2 year old son out in 40 degree weather (cold and very windy) with nothing on because he messed his diaper and she didn't want to buy diapers anymore. She's already lost one to a custody battle, had 3 abortions or whatever, and she just turned 20! But, on the other hand, I've seen kids that have been raised by the state. We have to get learner's permits to drive and a bartender has to go through schooling to mix drinks. But, we can pop babies out with no education on how to be a good parent. Figure that one out! Who would do the training? The state? That's a joke! So, in answer to your question, that would depend on who does the licensing and who would do the exam! It's disgusting watching little girls pop out babies with no idea what to do with them, or, grown women for that matter. I knew a guy and his wife (ex wife) that dumped their kids off with the state. Neither one should have been parents, but they kept producing. What kind of job did the state do? That's a toss up on who was worse, the parents or the state.

Who would give the test? The government. Sure, so they can control more things in our lives? Besides, there is no book or law or regulation on how to raise a child the correct way. I do agree with you that there are parents that should never have had children. They have done nothing but mess up the child's life where we would end up paying for their mental health and/or rehab at the end and possible jail time in taxes.

It's a great idea, I mean , every year , I have to renew my license to own a dog. But any moron can have a child, or really ingrate people who keep on having numerous kids, that they cannot afford to care for. However if our government would set up regulations on who, and how many children someone can have, we would open a big can of trouble, Like in China, where people are allowed only one child, "and baby girls are often adopted out, or abandoned on the street to die. Or worse, Hitler trying to purify the gene pool, "they gave badges of honor to "perfect Aryn" type women when they gave birth to 4 or more children, But maybe the goverment could at least give free, and "strongly",recomended classes to pregnant women and thier partners. With out ending up with a "big brother" state, what are some better choices??I think it would help if we had free health care, and free child care in this country, they do in Sweden, and you never hear horror stories of children being tortured by thier own parents, like you see on the news almost daily here.

Parenting classes would definitely help many. And personally I think there should be a requirement that people be financially able to support children before they have them (it would sure reduce the tax burden on the citizens). Won’t ever happen though.

sure, I completely consider that. i do no longer think of minimum academic standards could be sufficient because of the fact that there are various stupid people who graduate severe college or maybe bypass directly to college, so i could say IQ tests. And evidence of financial duty could probable be yet another stable requirement. And something i've got constantly concept myself is that there must be a shrink on the style of youngsters, variety of like China, yet no longer so harsh. possibly a shrink of three and after that, each further infant ought to have a huge fee.

Yes, people should both want their kids and be able to provide for them. Parenting is a tricky business, and if they don't let us drive without a license, kids without a license doesn't seem right either.

I get your point and I understand but, no, we're not in China. I think extremely cruel and neglectful parents should be sterilized though.
