Are you kidding? It's just a belly button ring! If you are blessed to become pregnant, and your belly swells, the chances of tearing, or stretching are great, and then when you belly flattens again, you may end up with a droopy hole/ring. Leave it out! You can always get it done again if you want to, but honestly, aren't bb rings kindof "out"????

I got my naval ring 8 years ago, and had a baby last July. I kept it in the entire time, and there was no scarring at all. The hole didn't increase in size, either. I only gained 20 pounds, though, so, I didn't get as large as some people do; if you gain a lot of weight, maybe it makes a difference? I know it was starting to get snug near the end.
Just make sure that if they have to take it out for an emergency c-section, that it can be done easily and quickly.

well, i am not sure why you would need to take it out a year in advance. but you can leave it in up until you are six months pregnant.
you can also buy pregnancy belly rings.
my holes didn't stretch out. the only thing that happened was i got a tiny (very tiny) little stretch mark in between the holes. i can't even see it now unless i look really hard, and i had my baby six months ago. that also happened to a friend of mine.
i have had my belly ring for almost 7 yrs and i took it out the day i found out i was pregnant because i didn't feel motherly with it in. well about a month after i had my baby i wanted to put it back in. so i put a threader earring (the long earrings that look like strings) in for a few weeks and worked it back and forth. then i put my ring back in with no problems.
if you have any worries about it you should talk to a doctor about it.
hope this helps

I took mine out when I was about 4 months pregnant, when my stomach started popping out a bit. I had only had it for about 5 years previously, the hole closed over pretty quickly though (only took about 6 weeks!!!) The scar was pretty big by the end of my pregnancy, as naturally there is a lot of skin stretching, and now, 3 pregnancies and children later the scar is till very visable. It is still quite large, about an inch long. But, with 3 gorgeous kids, I really don't care!!! Good luck in your quest for motherhood!

I've heard you can wear it until you start showing?
Well here is a site that sells special pregnancy navel umm rings?
http://www.pregnancypiercings.com/
Anyway I don't see the big difference about when you take it out. Once a piercing is healed the scar stays pretty much forever. Some people have ear piercing holes even though they no longer wear earings.

I can't see how it can hurt the baby, and if it hurts you, you'll know.

You have had it for quite some time so it wont heal over. I took mine out at 8wks pregnant and put it back in when bub was 8-10 wks. Most of us get a bit of little jelly belly after the pregnancy so the ring/bar will be slightly looser as the hole does stretch a little bigger but will be fine. Its only if you leave it in during pregnancy as your belly grows that you would get a scar.
best wishes!

You are suppose to take the ring out when you start showing because of the belly stretching. I have never heard of taken it out a year in advance. It just leaves a scare where the rind went in and came out. the only reason your suppose to take it out is because it you get real big and your belly stretches it can tear around the ring if it gets caught on something

You can leave your ring in until you start showing. Once you start growing, your belly will stretch out a bit, and depending on how big your belly gets, it may stretch your belly button to the point that the ring could tear you, common sense will tell you that it is time. I got plenty of friends who left their rings in for the beginning of the pregnancy, and some left them in the entire 9 months (they didn't really show) with no problems.

I think you got bad advice.
I'd had my navel pierced for 7 years before the birth of my first child. I wore my regular jewelry until that got uncomfortable, and then went to my local piercing parlor, explained the situation, and bought an extra-long belly bar made out of a flexible material. It wasn't exactly glam, but it did the job.
I didn't have any scarring. And it didn't stretch out during the pregnancy, and it looks fine now, after two kids. (And trust me: I was plenty big. I gained at least 30 pounds with each child.)
My first child was delivered via emergency C-section, and I didn't even have to take the jewelry out for that. My second one was born via C-section, too, because of a second case of preeclampsia, and they made me take the belly bar out for that one. But I just put it right back in. No problem.
If you don't want to take it out, don't.

I left mine in til I was about 4 or 5 mos along because I could feel the pressure and thought it was a good idea! But no, it did not leave scarring and the hole didin't get big, but it became visable, however it returned to normal as soon as I did. That's just my experience. You could also ask a pro. body piercer cause they should know about how any piercing would change when the skin streaches, etc.
