why do only the orange smarties have a flavour.

I thought all the others tasted of chocolate...oh, how deluded I have been.

Yes the orange ones definitely taste of oranges-I believe you. My personal theory on this (and its not backed up by looking in the ingredients list-but probably could be) is that the dye used to colour the shell orange probably has orange oil as an ingredient and therefore it 'bleeds' into the chocolate to flavour it. What I cant understand is why the ones that reside next to the orange ones don't get tainted. Its a theory.

Well, what flavour would the purple one have? I think the only other flavoured chocolate that tastes ok is orange chocolate so wouldnt really want all of them to be flavoured! There would be too much fight for attention of the flavours in my mouth!

I would assume because others used to have flavours but over the years they got dropped for various reasons- at one point there was a light brown one which was coffee flavoured. I don't think anyone really knows for sure.

They all have their own flavors but I always thought the orange tasted a bit like baby aspirin.
Next time, eat all the others and save the orange for last and see if you can tell the difference.

I think it is because the are made with orange flavoured chocolate.

because your supposed to eat the whole pack in one handfull, that way the others don't need flavor because the orange ones take care of it for the rest of them.
