Would probably be best to first define terms. If you accept the definition that counterculture describes a cultural group whose values and norms of behavior run counter to those of the social mainstream of the day, then absolutely, true Biblical Christianity is the acme of counterculture....ALL human secular culture.

However, one needs to distinguish between Biblical Christianity and the sometimes confusing, often diluted behavior of nominal Christians living in affluent cultures like the United States. Many times Christians in name only are completely indistinguishable from nonbelievers, and genuine Christians continually struggle against being swept up by cultural norms, some with great success and others with less so.

Great question. Best to you.

It used to be, back in it's early days Christianity was a fringe cult whose members were accused of all sorts of things (like cannibalism because they claimed to be eating the body of Christ at communion) That all changed with the first Christian roman emperor, whose name is escaping me right now but i think it"s Constantine. After that being Christian was the culturally acceptable thing to do, still is today and probably will be for some time.

Depends what culture you're living in. The Roman Empire tried to conquer Christianity and Christianity conquered Rome.

Nothing that 80% of the country (United States, at least) adopts is "counter cultural" and not when it's identified with society's most conservative members.

No, not thought provoking for me anyway.

In this culture that is full of exploitation of women (prostitution, pornography...), full of greed (robbery, gambling, lotteries...) and full of disrespect for life (abortion) .... YEP!!!

Our culture says "Do onto others before they catch on or do it to you" while Jesus said "Do onto others as YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO ONTO YOU!" Belief in God and following God's will and Jesus are counter cultural BIG TIME!

Yes, in Post Christian America, Christianity is counterculture

More than half of all adults (54%) believe that if a person is generally good, or does enough good things for others during their life, they will earn a place in Heaven. (2006).
