oh yeah... i switched from Honda's to VW in 2001. got a v6 jetta. it was a great little car. cruised well , plenty of speed. so needless to say the speed end got to my son who rolled in nearly 100 feet. he walked away without a scratch. the car was totaled, but the body held well. great protection. theses cars are made to do 120 on the autobahn in Europe. next car was the 2003 GLX beetle. (this one my son didn't want to drive) and it's been dependable and drives like a little sports car. very zippy. SNIFF (now I'm selling it) because now I've moved up to the new EOS. VW hard top convertible. amazing. i have not regretted this purchase and just proves to me that VW has done it again.... another winner.

I had a 2000 VW Jetta GLS. Had to have about 27 repairs, and although I don't own it anymore, I get about 6 recall notices per year from VW in the mail.
Lesson learned -- never buy a NEW model car from any manufacturer, especially VW. The company was not helpful in any way when it came to filing a Lemon Law.

I can only tell you about the "older" VW's, okay? They are the best
little cars ever made! I've owned 5 in my 50 years, and "none" have let me down. "I" have let a couple of "them" down, before I matured enough to realize I had to treat them the way I wanted to "be" treated. I now own a 1971 VW, and I've had littlelota71 for 14 years. I bought her from a dope head for 200.00, and they wanted her back once they saw me driving around town. Too bad, I told them. I drive from Las Vegas to Phoenix Arizona on 18.50! And from Las Vegas to L.A. on the same. The heater is great in the winter time, and since there's no ac, I just have to
"wing 40" the windows to get air in the summer. I love my bug, can you tell????

Great design, nice technology, but not for me...I need a 1 ton truck for my work, and VW doesn't make anything that will haul more than 5 people, or 750 pounds roughly...
Depends on the purpose!

Volkswagen's are great cars. They are a little nicer than the Japanese imports (Honda,Toyota, Etc.) and they are great on gas. I have a 94 Jetta and it gets 30 MPG and has a much better ride and is much quieter than Japanese cars I've driven. Because European cars are built sturdier than Japanese cars, much more steel used. Making them safer, but of course this makes them heavier as well.

Not very well built, honestly. MB and BMW make a much more solid car. I would rather have an older Benz or BMW than a new VW. And VW is front wheel drive. Might as well buy a Honda.

I have owned a '72 beetle and a 68 bus and I loved them. I would give anything to have my bus back now, it was mint, however, I let someone borrow it and they ran it out of oil coming up the mountain and didn't pull over! As for the newer ones, no clue, I don't see many around up here in the Mountains.

I tend to think so, hehe. :-D
Awesome right-out-of-the-box, plus myriad aftermarket toys you can add to bump it up to your exact tastes.
I've had other marques, and nothing makes me smile like a VW does. I will still own other brands, but I view them as utilitarian modes of transportation.

my 97 GTi VR6 was a total blast to drive. not the fastest or most refined car out there, and it had its electrical gremlins, but it never, EVER, didnt put a massive grin on my face.
i put a t3/4 turbo kit on it, and about 1200 RMS watts in the hatch, and it was just a total gas to drive. seriously loved that car.
