Ha ha, LMAO. America is definitely not perfect, though it has its perks (like the education system). The thing about the poverty in this country kind of proves the laziness of Americans. When me and my mother first came here from Moldova, a third world country in Eastern Europe, 15 years ago, my mother was amazed at the extraordinary amount of homeless in this country compared to Europe. And as we came to find out, it is quite literally IMPOSSIBLE to become homeless in this country, PARTICULARLY if you are a citizen, unless you are addicted to drugs, don't want to work, or both. Even if you work at McDonald's full time, you can make enough money to pay rent, even if might be in a poor neighborhood. And has anyone ever noticed that most of the homeless in this country are not foreign, but are natives of this country? I live here alone, go to school full time, work part time, with no financial support other than from myself, and have still managed to make enough money to live in a decent area of my urban area - I don't want to hear any complaints. There really is no excuse.

I also share your dismay about the homelessness epidemic in this country. It is terribly ironic that in a country where celebrities make millions of dollars for making crappy movies, where people are blessed with such extravagence and wealth, that there is such a disparity in the wealth and that individuals can suffer ailments in their lives- illness, loss of work, and as a result suffer enourmous poverty and live like animals on the sidewalk. It's barbaric in my opinion that the govt' allows its own citizens to live without a roof over their heads. But some will claim that homelessness in an inevitable consequence of capitalism and that the govt' cannot be too generous otherwise people would become lazy and wouldn't want to work, as is usually the case in a communist country...I don't know what the solution is for helping people who are homeless find permanent shelter, but you're right that this gov't is not doing much to help. The people who are helping are those who work for non-profit organizations, like a wonderful organization Pathways to Housing

Why would there be homeless Americans under the bridges in Mexico?
And no, mass immigration of too many poor people is ruining our schools and health services. This isn't just about what kind of person, but how many people.

Well the USA has 3 times as many people as Mexico.
That doesnt include the fact that 10% of Mexico is in the USA now
(11 million illegal mexicans approximately and Mexico's population is about 100 million.)
And the ones that are in the USA surely arent the ones who had a nice home in the suburbs of Mexico.

I visited Cebu City, Philippines, and saw a lot of street people there, especially children. But I don't really know. The only way you can tell if someone is a street person is by seeing them sleep outdoors, more than one day. In the Philippines the street people don't have any obvious places to sleep. I hardly ever saw any of them sleeping in the streets. They would beg in the streets, and sell stuff in the streets, but people with homes could do that too. And they looked healthy. Maybe the Philippines doesn't really have any street people. Maybe they just give that impression, by begging etc.
It seems to me the bigger the city, the more likely it is to have a lot of street people. Because in a big city they can survive by begging, scavenging, etc.
Maybe some of them are loosely living with relatives who don't have enough space. Maybe they sleep outside, but maybe in their relatives' yard or some such place.
Or maybe there are strict laws that homeless people have to sleep out of sight, so tourists don't see them sleeping.

America doesn't give a **** about anyone except the rich. And No not everyone here on the streets is lazy or mentally ill or drug adicted. Most are abused kids that ran away from abuse of that were in foster homes until 18 when the get dropped from the system and have no money or place to go.

well in mexico they have squatters laws... like, if the building is empty people can live there. we don't have those here. also, people in mexico can live in crumbling buildings, simply structures they can build themselves, etc.... here, our laws prevent that. so of course there are not many homeless in mexico! when i lived there, my rent was 50 dollars!! here...it's 1,000! also, we RENT or take out loans on our homes here, so it is VERY easy to lose them!! in mexico, you pay cash, and that home can stay in your family so you never lose it. also, many family members live together, here this is not the case. there are LOTS of reasons why we have more homeless. homes, apartments, and shelter in general son mas barato en mexico y porque de esto, no hay personas sin casas en mexico.

Well since your country is dirt poor, you have different standards for poverty and "homelessness". Those people are bums and could have, but didn't do anything with their lives. They had the oppurtunity. Those people could do the jobs that you damn illegal immigrants take from them! And in that last liitle selection, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!??

This is poorly worded, but I'll attribute that to a language barrier. However you see that there is poverty for Americans too, so these immigrants coming over and taking jobs is in fact hurting America. They will work for less money and therefore these people are run out of their jobs. Now that's not all of them, some of them could just be losers, but I'll bet some under that bridge you saw lost their job so their employer could give it to an immigrant for less money.
