engine runs but it has over 195000 miles so it has seen better days I have a rebuilt engine ready to be installed , I have done this engine replacement on the past but never on a front wheel drive any help will be much appreciated.

u have two options, firstly u can take them out from the top, remove the bonnet first, take ur driveshafts out , remove the exhaust and other hoses and so on. remove engine and trans together and separate when removed. the 2nd option is to drop it out the bottom, u will have to remove the k frame/subframe that holds the suspension arms and what not to the car.it is sometimes easier to do it this way but a hoist will be needed for this option.

You are in luck. The 00 elantra is one of the easiest cars to change the motor or transmission. Unplug all the wiring connectors. drain all the fluids. Unbolt the rack and pinion. Removed the one sub-frame brace and lower the engine and trans out the bottom together. Install in reverse. Approx time 6-10 hours for a beginner.

Get your hands on a Mitchel Repair Manual. They give step by step directions. Your local library may have one. NAPA part stores carry manuals. If you call your local Hyundai dealership, and ask real nicely, they may let you borrow it.
If you have not changed a transverse engine - there are a LOT of detail steps that MUST be done. Many Front Wheel Drive vehicles suggest removing BOTH engine and trans TOGETHER.

See that mechanic who stated it become advantageous. (perhaps he will keep in innovations you), they are approachable and for them the challenge is determining; otherwise they could have taken classes to be mind surgeons.
