he does not just "present choices" - he deceives. his job is 3-fold - to steal, to kill and to destroy. he steals our peace, kills our understanding and destroys our soul. he's conniving, malicious and cunning and he will twist the truth right into a lie.

Wrong. The devil is a liar, the prince of thieves, the Great Accuser, and he will lead you straight to Hell. He loves misery, death, torture, pain, cruelty, evil, and all things negative. He hates humanity. He is a fallen angel who rebelled against God because God put created humans in His image and put humans above the angels. Satan said he'd rather rule in Hell than serve in Heaven.
In short, his very nature is the reason the Christians hate him. After all, if you know that someone is trying to steal your soul and condemn you to a fiery afterlife for all eternity simply because he hates humanity - why would you love him ? And if you knew he hated the Savior who pardoned you and gave you eternal life how could you do anything but hate him ?

Those who "hate the devil" do not understand his function in God's plan. His function is to tempt mankind and serve as a "screener" to screen out those who are not yet ready to give up their passions and desires. You are correct ... the "devil" should not be hated. Likewise, we should not hate ourselves either, but rather learn from our poor choices which we have made.

That is a very good question! You should never blame the devil for all the decisions you made because its your choice. We shouldn't hate ourselves either. The devil uses hate to make us feel bad and do bad stuff. We should look to the future and keep our eyes on Jesus until the day that we finally go to be with him.

I don't hate the devil. Don't get me wrong I love God. If God made Satan to be His equal, wouldn't satan then also want to be adored and worshipped? Maybe I have this wrong. Some say God made satan to be his equal. Some say God wanted all the angels to think of humans as His best creation. Don't quite understand that one, but why would beings want to be told humans are the best creation. I love satan as much as I love anyone else. Please people, don't freak on me ok. I'm having trouble getting across what i'm trying to say. Let me say again. I love and adore God.

Yes the wrong choices. He tempts us to fall and crash and burn so that we can be miserable like him. He preys on our weakness and destroys us. We have every reason to hate him, and the sin that he temps us to do. We should not hate ourselves or other people, hate the sin brought on by the devil.
( In your heart do not hate)The only form of hate that I can possibly agree with is "the hate of sin".. not people. Love the person hate the act.

you have an excellent point
from a scholarly point of view, the 'adversary' did this in book of Job
had no power, just taunted and tried to test one's faith but not 'evil'
we create a god/devil for what we like/dislike and what others put on us
often evil is said to be whatever benefits just you, and good is said to be what benefits others
but I think the balance is that which benefits all
and bad is what benefits only some

We hate the Devil because he hates God and will always try to hurt God in any way he can, usually by leading God's people into temptation and sin. If you had someone who hated you and the person you loved most and was always trying to hurt you, wouldn't you hate them?
