When i try and do something on microsoft word a message at bottom says"the command is not available because the document is locked for edit" what do i do??

epbr123.. you copied wisdom trol after he wote it .. first u wrote umm .. then you copied him so u could be the first and make it look like he copied you .. you sorry!

read only file?

unlock it? (but u need to know the password if)

Did you open the file as "read only"?

Was the file saved as a document or as a presentation?

copy the whole content of the document and paste it on a new document.

That happens when word crashes and the file lock isn't released... restart your computer.

is that from a new document, or you opened up an existing file? if you opened it, maybe the file was cripted that way by the creator of that file.

unlock it if you know the password. Close the document and reopen it. A dialog box will prompt you for the password. If that doesn't work go to tools...protection...unprotect...enter password.

use some whan elses computer like a friends or a library
