Get our kids out! My nephew is over there! There is no reason for us to stay there since there was no reason for us to be there in the first place! Why did we divert our attention from Afghanistan and run after Iraq? Really dumb move! What are our children dying for over there...a civil war?

Carrots and sticks. The Kurds seem mostly to be nervous but on board with a unified Iraq with guarantees for each of the major ethnic/religious groups. The Shiites and Sunnis seem to need more convincing. Some of the functions of the militias are quite understandable. The Shiites still think of the Sunnis as if they were the previous regime, and the Sunnis are a definite minority compared to the Shiites and risk extermination. Security is obviously an issue. Some of the Sunni insurgents seem to be the same Sunni types that blow up themselves and others in other parts of the mid-east. Now that al Maliki feels able to suppress the militias, especially the Mahdis, and has extra security coming in the form of American reinforcements, I expect we're entering a new phase. The arrest of the (Shia) Mahdists and the shoot-up of the (Sunni) Sniper Alley can be seen by both sides as sticks equally applied. The Sadrists rejoining the parliamentary process can be seen as nibbling at the carrots.

Take the politicians and PC crap out of the war and let the soldiers do what they are trained to do. Why is it we never learn. We tried the same tactics in Viet Nam, win the people's hearts...
When someone fires at you from a mosque, they no longer respect that building as a religious symbol, and neither should we. The insurgents are using our weakness, caring what the rest of the world thinks of us, to their advantage.

We need to wake up.

Honestly, to blow the place up. But the soldiers can't blow it up, there are civilians that want to live there. Mainly get someone with a shotgun to clear it out.

Or, they sometimes toss a bundle of c4 and hope the insurgent dies in the explosion.
