I would still try to engage her, no matter her age. My mom's cats are.. um... 10 years old and soooo sedentary such that they have become obese (severely), which is so sad to see. She has to undo the problem now, and play with them a lot... you might as well play with yours a little every night now. My cats like the laser pointer and fetching bouncy balls. I play with them every night while I watch the news... doesn't take much effort and it's fun (for me and them).

Cats get bored if they do not have anything to entertain themselves with and they often will eat more frequently. It's a good idea to make some toys for them, even simple ones like string and play with them or little ping pong balls they can chase around. You can also get them Science diet for Indoor cats or Light cat food which can help a cat not gain as much weight off of the dry cat food. Lasers are real fun too cuz you can just sit there and they'll chase it around.

i have the same problem. my cat is 3 yrs. old and does absolutely nothing but eat her dry food and gets a pack of whiskas treats a day and whatever else she bums. she is in her weight bracket though according to the vet. she weighs 14 pounds and has a lot of fur. u could probably call ur vet and ask them or try to play more with your cat or get another cat to keep your cat active.
