Colds are a mild viral disease of the upper respiratory system (throat & nose). Symptoms include sneezing, snifling, runny nose, nasal congestion, scratchy-sore-phlegmy throat, coughing, headache and tiredness. Cold typically last 3 to 5 days with residual coughing lasting up to 3 weeks.
Coughs can be the result of several things. Such as viral illness, infections, chronic lung disease, stomach acid in the esophogus, nasal drainage and smoking.
Hope this helps and have a nice evening!

More coughs are from allergies or simply dry air or from irritation of the vocal cords from talking. that is why you see speakers have a glass of water at their podium. You can have a cold and just a stuffy nose or a fever and no cough. They are not the same at all, but too much coughing can make your throat raw and succeptable to the cold virus, and a cold can make your throat sore making you cough.

Well, being a doctor, cough is when you have some snot or mucus in your throat that is trapped. Cold is when you are congested and you your nose is draining to your throat which will make you cough.
