I accidently tripped over my cat while i was walking towards the trash can, i didnt hit her too hard but i pushed her away and she looked at me with her ears back for a few seconds and went to hide in her box. What should i do to get her to trust me again :( ?

I have done that a number of times. When it happens, I always talk in a gentle, apologetic, higher pitched voice. At first my cats would be wary of me when it would happen but now, they know I don't mean to hurt them.

If your cat's still hiding, go and talk to her gently every couple of minutes but don't try and pull her out of her spot, that will infringe on her space and cause her to distrust you even more. Once she comes out, talk to her gently, ask her questions (just to engage her and let her know she's important) and touch her gently. She might recoil a little, but just keep trying - just be patient with her. She'll come around!

It takes time to regain an animal's trust. Give her some space and when she's ready to give you another shot she will let you know. In the meanwhile try to move slowly and speak calmly around her and maybe buy some Feliway plugins to reduce her anxiety. I hope that if you get a dog or any other kind of animal in the future you will take this lesson to heart. Hitting is not an effective teaching tool regardless of species.

I have kept alot of cats in my life, and have accidentaly hurt or scared some of them. When this happens I apologize profusely exactly as I would to any human. They always understand and are very happy to recieve some extra petting and brushing to make it up to them. It has always actually caused deeper bonding with my cats because they have a new awareness of my behavior and my feelings for them. Brushing always makes kitties happy again.

I tell them I'm sorry repeatedly, show them that you know what you did and that you didn't mean to do it. They understand. I have a multiple cat household and often have that happen. Don't ignore her like someone else suggested....say "I'm so sorry...etc" Good luck

i hate it when that happens. if she ran off, then just let her be. she'll come back to you. my cat always does. give her some food, too. and be nice. she hasn't lost her trust, she just got scared. if you're nice, she'll keep trusting you.
