You absolutely have to go to Lao Sze Chuan! It isn't even close.

This restaurant was featured on "Check Please" which is a television show on local channel 11 that often features some of the best restaurants in Chicago. http://www.wttw.com/main.taf?p=1,5...

I ate here and it is hands down the best chinese food I have ever had. However, the line was out the door and we waited for 45 minutes for a table (well worth it)! I highly recommend the 7-Spice Chicken. It was wok-crispy and incredibly tasty. The Mongolian Beef was also excellent. Very fresh.
We also had the Sesame Chicken which I didn't care for...only because it was swimming in sauce. I like my entrees with little sauce and crispy. Get the 7-spice chicken instead.
We also enjoyed the complimentary relish tray before the meal. Be careful though it is very spicy!

My second choice would be Ben Pao. You have to get the 7-spice chicken and the crispy garlic string beans.

Ben Pao 52 W. Illinois St., Chicago, IL 312/222-1888 Fodor's Review: Snagging the award for the most Zen Chinese restaurant in town is this spot, with its minimalist black-and-gray decor and soothing water walls. The food livens up the scene, with spicy noodles, Cantonese roast duck, and plenty of the tried-and-true sesame chicken and kung pao chicken. A dozen or so small-plate starters and the Asian hot pot dish -- a sort of fondue that uses bubbling broth to cook meat -- encourage sharing, making this a good choice for the gang.

In Chinatown the Pheonix has probably the best dim sum I have ever eaten. The clientelle are mostly Chinese which is a very good sign at a Chinese restaurant.

I recommend Phoenix for dim sum. Be prepared for a wait if you go during peak dining hours, esp. during the weekends.

It's at 2131 S. Archer Ave, Chicago, IL.

I went there for non-dim sum Chinese food just this past Monday 1/22. I highly recommend the Cantonese chow mein.
