I don`t know if it is traditional or not but it is a very thoughtful gesture and it shows love & respect for the parents

If the children are of an appropriate age, then it's a nice thing to do, especially for special, landmark anniversaries. It's not traditional, though... Many folks throw their own parties...

For the most part YES! It's usually put on the children; and it's the right and nice thing to do! Alot of kids nowadays don't care about their parents~ this would be a good way for you to show them you love them!
