What is the shelf life of *unopened* white wine? I found a cheap-*** bottle of 2002 Sauvignon Blanc.

Provided it's stored correctly--such that the cork doesn't dry out--it could conceivably last for decades or more. It's not going to go "bad" in anyway, certainly. However, not all wine vinted is meant for much aging. Most, in fact, is meant for immediate or close to immediate consumption.

A 2002 Sauvingnon Blanc is probably still just fine. It may have improved with age, or it may have lost some of its character, or it may simply have changed. There's only one way to find out!

If the cork is extrememly dry or cracked, the wine may have soured into vinegar, but that will be immediately apparent in flavor and aroma. If the cork seems fine, give it a try.

Mainly it would depend on the area the wine would come from. Seing as how you called it cheap, I'sll go out on a limb and say it was bought i n grapes to reduce costs. Secondly cheap generally menas no barrels maturation therefore about 2 years from vintage date.

Some Sancerre style Sauvignon Blancs can last up to 20 years if not more depending on how they are stored. You'll probably have a flabby wine with some touches of honey suckle from the bottle age. Good to ecuducate your palate though!

You can keep the wine for about a decade in the laying down postion so that the cork remains in contact with the wine...or else it can shrivel up and the wine gets oxidised.
You can keep the bottle in the cellar or in a fridge.

Merlot for me! (It's red.) By the way, why do people ask a question and then add their favorite answer to it? It means that only the people who chose "white wine" will have a chance of getting best answer, doesn't it?

a cheap wine typically is only made to last 1 year after it's been released. There are some exceptions to that, but I'd recommend drinking your find sooner rather than later. : )

1-make sure it is packed & stored well,
2-it should not be flat.
3-if u know abt wine smell it & taste it u 'll find is it potable or not.

if stored upright with a cork, not too long. keep older wines upside down or on it's side to prevent a moldy cork. the only way to tell if it's good is to try it.
