Let's say you have this book before you that some people claim is from God. Would a good way to discern if they were right be to see how well the book holds up to your own sense of morality?

The key to your question is "some people claim".

Discarding your own morality - let alone your common sense - on the basis of another person's claims is a dangerous thing to do, and is the basic error that all cult devotees make.

Discarding is not the same as critically evaluating.

There is no subjective way of "deciding" whether something is Scripture. That has already been decided once and for all time, under the Guidance of the Holy Spirit, by the bishops of the Catholic Church gathered in Council in Carthage, North Africa, in 397 AD. A good way to discern whether your sense of morality is right is to see how well it holds up to Scripture, and to the other teaching of God's Church.

Also history...quoting from the Bible as said by a head of the Jewish Sanhedrin, ; (because, if this scheme or this work is from men, it will be overthrown; but if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them;) otherwise, you may perhaps be found fighters actually against God.”—Acts 5:34-39

A book that has been printed in all languages, went through many persecution...but still stood firm and proves to be the most beneficial....thats good for me.

Pray about this. Whichever verse this is askin prayer! If you get that deep...deep burning within you'll know whether it's right or not. Morality should have nothing to do with that.

"Ask God the eternal father, in the name of Christ if these things are not true; and if you ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ he will manifest the truth of it to you by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost you shall know the truth of all things."

No cuase our morality is severly flawed.See if its consistent with God's character and the things He says. And is what God says something good or something bad;if its something bad, then you're probably looking at a false text.

No. Our standards will never be as high as Gods. We are not able to judge Gods standards because we do not understand His ways and never will while we are on this earth.
