I downloaded a number of lectures onto a CD, most run just a few minutes; but none of my computers, including Windows Media will open and play them. They all have the .rm suffix. On one computer I got some error about a codex [I may be spelling this incorrectly] but I have no idea what to do now.
Any ideas would be apprecited.

.rm stands for real media. You may have to download RealPlayer to make them work.

Your other option is to download a codec pack, such as the k-lite mega codec pack. I have used it for years and never had any problems. It comes with Media Player Classic, which is pretty basic program, but works with everything (including .rm files). The mega codec pack is definitely more than you'll need, but I don't know exactly which codec you need or I'd tell you to download that one. See the link below.

.rm is a Real Media format. You will need to use Real Player to play them. You can download a free version here: http://www.real.com/ Link is on the right side.
