There is a procedure called chelation therapy that will get the lead as well as other heavy metals in your body. For lead, generally, a regular doctor will prescribe it. For other things such as clogged arteries, you can find an osteopathic doctor to administer it. It consists of an iv treatment, usually 3 to 4 hours whereby chemicals enter the blood stream and attach themselves to the lead and other toxic waste and then it is simply passed out in the urine.

There is a theory that calcuim will help to absorb lead. If you are overexposed to lead it ends up in your bones. So it is possible (not proven) that drinking a lot of milk or say tums may help absorb some lead. If you have been over exposed I strongly suggest medical treatment. Over time lead levels will drop in the body. Small amounts of lead don't have serious effects and eventually will leave the body. The most at risk for harmful effects from lead (short term) are infants and small children.

There is a therapy that has been shown to help sometimes, but
be really careful about this. Chelation is not perfect. While there is some indication that chelation therapy might be helpful in some situations--there was a case in the '70s of a nuclear reactor worker contaminated with Americium who had most of it sucessfully removed by chelation--chelation is not indicated for all cases. Many of the chelating agents not only remove the targeted metal but all of the metals in your bloodstream, including the iron, calcium, and zinc that your body needs.

Chelation is not performed by taking over-the-counter compounds. It must be administered by a doctor or in a hospital under a doctor's supervision.
