Obviously she really needs to be near you and the family that loves and cares about her, so all you can do is be available to talk and to listen as she shares her thoughts and feelings with you. If she needs professional help she must take that very important step on her own. There are just some things she must do for herself, no matter how difficult it may be. She is very fortunate to have a sister like you, so continue to follow your heart and I pray everything will work out for the good of all concerned.

Does she still have her job? They probably have an EAP (employee assistance program)... that she could call and it would all be kept in confidence. As a professional, she might accept help from other "professionals" who understand. In some specialites (hospice for example) the employers are VERY understanding about job burn-out. The back up plan -- does YOUR employer have an EAP resource where YOU could get some professional input on your challenges with your sister... e.g. how to set boundaries, etc.

She needs a good support group: friends, family, church members, or co-workers. If she have positive people around her it'll help a lot. Remind her of all the good things in her life. Take her out with your friends or have girls night at your house. Just do something to get her out of her slum...

Until she wants help, she won't look for it. You listen, but all you are doing is prolonging her search for real answers. I know that you love her, but your life is too short. Do you really want your children to learn this much about life? Take care of yourself first, or you will not be good for anyone, then take care of those who cannot take care of themselfs, they don't have a choice in what they are around, then tell your sister how much you love her and how much it hurts you to see her in this much pain, but that if she won't help herself, she can't be around you and yours. just my opinion mind you. You sound like a wonderful sister to have. she doesn't know how lucky she is. good luck

She definitely needs professional help. Be there for her but encourage her to see someone.
