It seems to me that bhakti requires dualism - the idea that the soul of man, and God are separate. Because if they are not separate, then how can there be devotion? Can one be devoted to someone or something who is really not distinct from oneself?

What do you think? I'm really trying to get a Hindu perspective on this. Thanks!

Yes of course, as Bhakti (devotion) is DEDICATION (sampooran sumarpan) through MEDITATION (Self Realisation). Ultimately you will find- a Pure soul of a man is not different than God. God is pure soul with in you.

When you are human, your soul is not one with god. So, you can pray to god as you are not same as god.
So, there is no question of non-dualistic.
