The ability to form concepts, as opposed to understanding only the physical, is the primary defining attribute of humans.

To be less "attached" to concepts would not make me more free, but make me more like an animal.

Yes. Attachments to concepts are what hold us prisoner to this world. We are programmed from birth to believe certain concepts and this is what keeps us in bondage.

I don't know which religion you are referring to but I believe there are more than a few that follow this teaching.

Without concepts there is no religion.
Athiesm: there is no god
Christianity: Jesus is the son of God
Judiasm: The messiah has not come
Islam: Muhamed was a prophet
Deism: There logically has to be a god

it's easier to be free if you have ideas, rather than beliefs - a concept is nothing more than an idea, however, some people cling to concepts as if they were truth, and make such notions the foundation of their beliefs

If you want real freedom....Try Jesus

15Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 16But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect[a] the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
