They say stars are millions of light-years from earth. For light to reach earth, the earth had to be around long enough. That's why some stars are actually dead but we still see their light.

Some Christians believe God created the light in-transit. But of course there is no scientific basis (reality) for believing this.

Actually, it matters not how long the Earth has been here. The determining factor in seeing star light is purely the distance between the Earth and the subject star. ie...stars were born and died long before the Earth formed, therefore their light would have passed by this region of space long before anyone was around to notice it. So for us those stars either do not, or never existed since there is no more light traveling through space.
In answer to your question...there is nothing wrong with the starlight/light years FACT. There is no theory in regards to the distance and speed of light. It's a proven fact. Yes we can still see stars that have long ago colapsed and exploded, because of the time required for their light to reach the Earth.
Creationists... rely on ancient fables which were written at a time when you could put the sum total of man's scientific knowledge in a single paragraph.
Generally, creationists (beleivers) know very little about the origins of the very bible they perceive as the definatitive answer, as they do about scientific fact!

The light from stars that died before the birth of the Earth can still be seen because the universe is much older than the Earth.

This has nothing to do with creationists or non-creationists. Creationists can still argue that god created Earth on the second day or something like that.

That's completely illogical even for an Atheists. The Earth could have come into existence yesterday and still light that had been traveling thousands of years would reach it today. That would only mean the stars would have had to be in existence for millions of years not the Earth. What do you think you are talking to children?

In that moment when God spoke the universe into existence light traveled faster than it is observed to travel here on earth. The light from those stellar events that are observed happening at the greater distances is traveling at the speed at which light traveled at the beginning and the closer heavenly bodies are to the earth the slower light from them travels.

Science and Religion don't even have to disagree:

Science explains how
religion explains why

It's just the creation story that gets people debating.

Arguing just distracts us from the whole point.

I take the bible for what I believe it is: God's word. The point is that he made the earth, and he loves what he made. I believe God will keep his promises.

God's universe was around longer than the earth.

I never considered this question before. It's a really good point. If creationists don't believe in the speed of light, what's next... gravity?

Two possibilities, the light has been traveling for millions and billions of years, or god is intentionally deceiving us by stretching and warping the light to give it the appearance that it has been traveling for millions / billions of years.

Why would god deceive his creation?
