I have a 102 fever, I can barely eat anything without feeling full after a bite. I have my period but I haven't used tampons which cause Toxic Shock Syndrome. I feel really weak. What is going on?

Toxic Shock Syndrome Symptoms

Many people with toxic shock syndrome experience a 2- to 3-day period of mild symptoms before they develop the disease. These mild symptoms may include low-grade fever, muscle aches, chills, and malaise (a feeling of general discomfort, uneasiness, or ill health).

Toxic shock syndrome can affect most organ systems in the body, including the skin, lungs, liver, kidneys, blood, and pancreas. All people with toxic shock syndrome have a fever and a rash, as well as symptoms in at least 3 other organ systems. These symptoms or findings may include the following:

* Fever greater than 102°F (38.9°C)

* Rash (The rash of toxic shock syndrome is a red sunburnlike rash that covers most of the body. It is flat, not raised, and turns white if pressed. The rash may be difficult to see in dark-skinned people. Redness of the eyes, the lips, and the tongue [strawberry tongue] may also occur.)

* Headache (very common)

* Muscle aches

* Sore throat

* Cough

* Nausea and vomiting

* Diarrhea (profuse and watery)

* Abdominal pain

* Lightheadedness or fainting (especially on standing up)

* Confusion or disorientation

* Low blood pressure (systolic less than 90 mm Hg)

Those are the symptoms of RSS. I would recommend you visiting a doctor as soon as possible. Good luck!

Symptoms of TSS occur suddenly, usually during or just after a menstrual period. The more common symptoms include a high fever (over 102° F.), vomiting, diarrhea, a sunburn-like rash, and drop in blood pressure. Muscular aches and pains, headaches, sore throat, blood shot eyes, confusion, and peeling of the skin on the palms and soles may also appear. These symptoms are important and require prompt medical attention. A small rash could be just anything... you most likely dont have it..

I called a hospital quite a few years ago when I was sick during a period. I too thought it was TSS. The nurse asked if I left a tampon in too long and I said no. She said "Well then you don't have toxic shock syndrome."

You're sick, sweetie. I would reccomend calling the doctor about that fever (might be the flu), but if you haven't used tampons it's VERY unlikely to be TSS. Feel better!

If you have symtpoms of TSS, you need to get to an ER now. In fact, even if these aren't sypmtoms of TSS, with that fever and your other symptoms, you should already have been there.

Just get off your backside and get to ahospitl in order to save that same backside.

T.S.S. is nothing to play around w/! You asked my opinion. I had a friend who died in high school. she just felt sick in school, mom took her to Dr. sent her home, and she was gone. If only she had symptoms or anyone else picked up on them. Thought she had the flu. If you have the slightest thought--GO TO THE E.R. NOW! You will be ok, but go! Your body is your body, if u think somethings wrong go w/ it, if not GREAT! You did what u needed to!
