You cannot tell at such an early age. My oldest went through a phase where he loved tools. He is now 6 and could care less. He was also into soccer big time and doesn't care for soccer now. Why are you trying to map out your son's career right now? Just let him explore and figure out who he is. There are many, many years yet before he'll know what he wants to do.

As for his alphabet--most 2 year olds I know are familiar with their alphabet. I'm the mother of two and my first knew his alphabet but it was mostly just the song he had memorized. However, my youngest really knew his alphabet. A good way to tell is to have them point out specific letters or give them flashcards to put in order. If he can do that then he really knows his alphabet. Otherwise he is just repeating the song.

That's very impressive, my two year old knows only a few letters of her alphabet but she is also into tools and is very mechanical and can figure things out. But this is in no way a way to forsee them in the future. It's easy to be proud of your kids when they seem ahead of the pack as you put it. And you have every reason to be proud. But don't be disappointed in the future if he becomes something totally different than what you expect. Just keep encouraging him in everything he shows an interest in.. and don't push him. Alot of times when kids are pushed into things they don't want to do they will rebel in a way and not want to be interested in anything at all.

There is a difference in knowing that alphabet and remembering the song from rote memory. Monkey see monkey do you know? The honest truth is no matter what you do, no matter what kind of school you put your child in, by the time your child reaches the first grade he will be on the same level as the rest of the children. It is during that time that you will have to foster his interests in order to help him flourish. Don't overwhelm your child with activities though.

No. He's memorized a song. He hasn't figured out anything that any other 2 yr. old couldn't do with a little practice.

As for the career in homebuilding, that's ridiculous. He probably likes to ride his tricycle too--doesn't mean he'll be the next Lance Armstrong.

My daughter is also 2 and she knows her alphabet as well she can also count to 5 it just means you are doing a good job.I don't know about the career thing but he sees what you are doing and thinks it is fun so he imitates it is also developing his motor skills.Good job mom he now has a head start on preschool.Isn't parenting fun( not being sarcastic) It has a certain thrill especially when you know you are doing it right.

Yeah - my 2 year old does that too- he can say the alphabet.. not really sing it. But he sees letters on whatever.. a movie, cereal, anything like that and says the letters on there. He counts to twenty too... (but skips 5) ?? kids are amazing!

CHILDREN CAN LEARN FAST AT AN EARLY AGE. THEY CAN LEARN THE ALPHABET SONG, BECAUSE IT IS ON CHILDREN CHANNELS AND OTHER WILL SING IT TO THEM. AGE 2 YOU JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY WILL GROW UP TO BE.
