My fiance and I are writing up the program to our ceremony. I know in the wedding invitation, traditionally, the female's name goes first. But when you just name the couple, like in the ceremony program, or naming other couples (like the bridal party or even naming husbands and wives in the program) whose name goes first? Is it "Eric & Sue" or "Sue & Eric" or "Sue & Eric Anderson" or "Eric & Sue Anderson"?? My fiance and I are confused about what is traditional???

Woman's name is always first and this is traditional. To list the man's name first is a violation of etiquette and shows a lack of polish. Don't make that mistake! Always "Sue and Eric Anderson," NEVER "Eric and Sue." Good luck, and I wish you many years of happiness in your marriage.

Yes, it is traditional to list the woman's name first, and applies even if she has retained her own last name; ie.; "Sue Smith and Eric Anderson".

Put "Sue & Eric", just to show that you won't be seen as the "typical tv portrayed housewife"! GIRL POWER! XO

And congratulations/congradulations on getting married.

If you want to go by traditional etiquette, the man's name goes first. However, there are no hard and fast rules. List them however you want.

Wife's name first, everywhere, unless you use the "Mr. & Mrs. John Smith" formula. (Why would it be the wife's name first in an invitation, but not elsewhere?)

all of the weddings I've been to the husband's name was always first. That's how we put ours. And I'm sure that no one really cares anyways... they're going to be there for you all!!
